Pork butts coming off the pit for lunch. I helped load up a few thousand meals (bun crew for the pulled pork sammiches). Loaded up a cooker with 8 cases of chicken drumsticks. Pork loins were on too for dinner.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -

I'm glad I went. Will try to go back tomorrow and Sat. Felt good to help out for folks who didn't make it out of the storm like I did, baking scones and **** .#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

Kind of. It gets busy when meat comes off the pits then not so much while other stuff is getting prepped. They have a system down with their old hands, so they do much of the prep and loading of the pits. It was a good day though. There was always somewhere one could pitch in , or take a break if needed. The Cen-Tex Smoker said:Were you guys pretty busy all day?#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
Very cool. That crowd will put it to good use. They know what they're doing for sure.RedSkip said:40,000 # of chicken is headed your way. Very honorable stuff here, sorry to hear about your arm @The Cen-Tex Smoker.
Judging by the size of those rigs they are working with its hard to imagine cooking on an egg. Very impressive operation. -
Agreed. They wanted a few griddles and grills for the camp cook station for all the volunteers to cook for each other. The big rigs handle all the heavy lifting.feef706 said:Very honorable stuff here, sorry to hear about your arm @The Cen-Tex Smoker.

Ha ha! Free hugs are good! We are headed out. Quick stop at the ortho on the way out but truck is packed. Have extra gas and food. @20stone has opened up chez Jones so we have a great place to stay. He will also be joking us at OBR base camp with @caliking. Forum representing Houston this weekend!
The wing is better again today and the muscle has moved back to a more normal position. I can live with this if they choose not to cut me as long as I don't lose much strength or mobility. I ant dead yet so I would rather go through the pain now than deal with it for the rest of my life. Either way, I'm plenty good to go! Will update as we get closer and get set up down there.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
Surgery next week but can't do any more damage than I've done so I'm headed to Houston. He said that I would lose 40-50% of my supination strength (twisting) if I didn't get it fixed. Not ready to give up on any strength or flexibility at this point.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

Way better than I expected when I did it. Thought I was going in for emergency surgery on the spot. Surgery is optional but he said that if I was at all active I would not be happy with the results of letting it heal on its own. I'm 48- not giving up the ghost quite yet.Legume said:Not great news, but good enough. Good luck down there.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
Good call on your part. I bet word of your injury got around town, and the Astros finally pulled the trigger on that Verlander trade. The Cen-Tex Smoker said:Surgery next week but can't do any more damage than I've done so I'm headed to Houston. One good thing with bringing Verlander on board is you also bring his girlfriend on board.
