    Word of the day: "gaslighting".

Like when Obama said:  "ISIS is not Islam"
So we should just say "Christians and not Klu Klux Klan or LRA or Army of God" (or whoever the organization that is terrorist de jour)?  Just name the predominant religion that they belong to?  OK, whatever.  I'm fine with that as long as it's a convention.
There is NOTHING ISIS is doing that Muhammad did not.  That does not hold true to your statement.
When my daughter was about 3 she got angry about something and called me a "doodyhead".

Being a good Christian I did as the Lord commanded and stoned her to death:

    Matthew 15:4
For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.'
In the correct context of that scripture "curses" is not used as "saying a bad word".  In the original text it actually means "murderous intent"......which is still punishable with the death penalty in our current legal system.
    If you say so.

I guess "speaketh evil" also means murderous intent eh?

    American Standard Version
For God said, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death.

I don't think calling them a "doodyhead" really falls into that category.

whats really different from today and when i was in the nuclear engineering department in the 80's.  lets see, a semester of school as a freshman cost me less than 800 bucks. same school is 30 k per year. how is that possible. i would pissed as a student getting screwed with those bills

Biggest driver has been a decrease in state and federal support for higher ed. Tuition rates have been increasing at a rate that's roughly twice that of inflation.
Uhhh..try bloated budgets combined with unrealistic tenure/retirement schemes having no chance whatsoever of keeping up with inflation let alone 'reasonable' federal support.

You can't educate our enemies or fund their R&D here without denying admission to kids whose parents actually pay to keep the place running in an unsustainable manner.

Again, these kids aren't stupid. They know exactly how these administrators/'scholars' have been compensated over time to do the exact same job that they're doing today for a fraction of the pay/benefits. Throw in the fact that their campus looks like a James Bond movie complete with nefarious characters from every country on the planet..and yes..they 'get it'.
I know that it is St. Patty's Day, but almost none of this makes any sense.  I have had a few drinks already though, so it could just be me.

I love all of the various interpretations of a verse from the bible.  Kind of proves the point there are different flavors in every major religion.

In the land of my people calling someone a "doodyhead" is no venial sin, tis a mortal one that ranks right up there with "your mother wears army boots".

Perhaps those same college kids didn't pay much attention to the institution that they attended or exited possessing any gut feeling that it needed to be overhauled (see every generation previous).

That is roughing it!  I haven't had a raise since 2010 and most of that raise paid for increased healthcare premiums.  I'm still kinda bitter.  Does it show?

The generation of kids these days are certainly different even from my generation.  However, I wish my generation was more like current generation.  They (current generation) work together and work well together to take on ANY task.  For other generations, that's tough to watch and swallow.  I get it and slowly buying into that scheme.

It wasn't until recently that I was part of a leadership training that I realized the above and made total sense, but took an open mind to grasp and buy in.
wow. an actual informed point of view from someone who lived it and didn't watch it on TV. shocking.

Regarding the accelerated cost of college tuition, my experience with 8 consecutive years of helping two ( conveniently four years apart in age) graduate, is that the gubmint decided to throw a lot of easy money (loans ) to colleges/students.  This enabled the institutions to jack up the rate of tuition increases knowing there were federal $$ available to support the rising costs.  So, at the end of the day, the gubmint made possible student (and loan co-signers) access to "easy money" to pay for the over-inflated education.
Behind the gubmint were the financial institutions that gladly supported this pass-thru money scheme so everyone was being helped by the ever accelerating student debt except the student.
This is a bit off the friggin college kids thread but relevant to the college $$ posts above.  Now back to my regularly scheduled beverage.

    @lousubcap

Like John in Carolina said early, the primary reason is because the government funding has been decreasing.  There are other reasons, inflation, insurance, technology, etc.

The need for the loans increased with the price.  So the government stepped in with guaranteed loans, which were abused by universities.  Government (us - you and me as we elected these people) bears much of the responsibility.
