I'm still not sure how I feel about this.  I feel the tide is turning, but I'm not fully committed to change.

    You, sir, have offended me!
    I would demand satisfaction, but alas . . .

I don't know how many generations you can remember, but this isn't new, it just gets more extreme each cycle.
No.  Less extreme.  College protests peaked during the Vietnam war and the draft.  Before that the civil rights protests against Jim Crow were way more violent (on the side of the authorities) than anything after the 60s and early 70s.   These are the generations that are the parents and grandparents of many if not most on this forum.

College is a time to explore who you are, learn about history and politics and take a stand against what issues you feel strongly about.

    ....sorry, getting off subject.

    DURN KIDS....GIT OFFA MAH LAWN!!!!
as to college being the time to explore who you are....this couldnt be stated more correctly.  When i was in college i learned how to grill steaks from a buddy who worked at.a mesquite-fired grill equipped restaurant.   We didnt reverse sear but we did leave the meat sit out before goimg on grill, amd we got the grill good and hot ao we could get crosshatch marks on the meat beforethe meat turned bitter.   It was then that i discovered how to make potatoes, other veggies and whole chickens on the weber kettle i was using.     I discovered that i love cooking over fire outdoors and it was only a matter of time until i got my first BGE...

I love it ... the "safe place" in college I mean.  College is supposed to prep one for the "real world" ... yes?  Does anyone work in a company that has a safe place?

For my age group, college itself was a "safe place."  Flunk out and they gave you a uniform, a rife, and sent you to Vietnam where the other guys shot at you.  Maybe a resurrection of the draft would help put safe places in perspective ...

@Jeepster47 - guys have to register for the draft...latest social/cultural debate is whether women will have to now that the armed forces have removed combat restrictions for women.
For me, "If you want the privileges ( as defined by the gubmint) then you have to accept the requirements."  But I'm sure it will generate too much hot-air.

@lousubcap ... you're correct that one still has to register.  Should have said "start drafting" folks into service again.

I'm old fashion and troubled by the talk of drafting our daughters.  But, I'd make one exception ... the first woman drafted should probably be Ex-Professor Melissa Click.

Feminist. Want to be equal but with exceptions to make the requirements easier. So all women have to sign up for the draft... Or only men and women that want to?

For one thing, Trump has absolutely no experience in government. He has never held office. If you want another president like Jimmy Carter, who couldn't get anything done because he didn't know how to connect in Washington, go ahead, vote for Trump. I would prefer either Clinton or Sanders who do have political experience.

While I like your moxie and share an equal disdain for the douchey Trump apocalypse, jimmy carter was a 2 term state congressman and the governor of Georgia before he was elected. He has since won a Nobel peace prize for his humanitarian efforts. I can't think of a more odd connection between two people as jimmy and the Donald. Donald and Ross Perot? Sure. Donald and Jimmy Carter? I'm lost.
