Finally I'll just say that as someone who works with college kids all the time, that they're pretty cool in my view.  My interactions with them give me hope for the future.
I would have hope for their future if more of them were giving any indication as to what they truly believe their future holds. If they were and (again) believed it?..they would be forcing these candidates to speak to more pertinent issues grossly affecting that future than free college and pot.

The generation of kids these days are certainly different even from my generation.  However, I wish my generation was more like current generation.  They (current generation) work together and work well together to take on ANY task.  For other generations, that's tough to watch and swallow.  I get it and slowly buying into that scheme.

It wasn't until recently that I was part of a leadership training that I realized the above and made total sense, but took an open mind to grasp and buy in.

@JohnInCarolina "It’s authoritarianism". Well that's new. Seems like another college kid who got his doctorate in politics

Instead of his fancy words and well written ideas, Ill tell you why I voted for Trump. I'm tired of being attacked because of my race. I'm tired of police officers getting ambushed and killed because of the media's absolute hate for them. I'm sick of BLM and the white guilt that comes with it. Trump is saying what we are thinking and people are scared about it.  At no point is my vote because of, or influenced by, authoritarianism. I'm just tired of being pushed around.
Ahhh...the angry, old, crotchety, white man. He's been such a victim of the last few hundred years. But the last 7 years have been especially hard as that Kenyan born Muslim mulatto in the White House has absolutely ruined a once great nation.

    Thankfully the savior has appeared:

Same here - college in the 80s.  A semester, not including books, cost between $350 and $500 for tuition.

I think that's mostly who he's winning, but as to why, he appeals to people with many non-pc latent feelings (and in some, not so much latent such as David Duke) by putting a voice to those feelings.

Biggest driver has been a decrease in state and federal support for higher ed. Tuition rates have been increasing at a rate that's roughly twice that of inflation.

Uhhh..try bloated budgets combined with unrealistic tenure/retirement schemes having no chance whatsoever of keeping up with inflation let alone 'reasonable' federal support.

You can't educate our enemies or fund their R&D here without denying admission to kids whose parents actually pay to keep the place running in an unsustainable manner.

Again, these kids aren't stupid. They know exactly how these administrators/'scholars' have been compensated over time to do the exact same job that they're doing today for a fraction of the pay/benefits. Throw in the fact that their campus looks like a James Bond movie complete with nefarious characters from every country on the planet..and yes..they 'get it'.

So we should just say "Christians and not Klu Klux Klan or LRA or Army of God" (or whoever the organization that is terrorist de jour)?  Just name the predominant religion that they belong to?  OK, whatever.  I'm fine with that as long as it's a convention.

Teenagers & college kids. always want to outrage older folks.  Its just getting harder and harder to do that.  My mother smoked in college in the 30's...OUTRAGE.  Sinatra hung out with mobsters and talked tough...OUTRAGE.  Elvis wore tight pants and danced with his hips  ...OUTRAGE.  The Beatles and Rolling Stones wore weird clothes and sang songs aimed to offend...OUTRAGE.  Black Sabbath...Alice Cooper...Johnny Rotten...Freddie Mercury...Madonna....pierced noses/eyelids/whoKnowsWhatElse...tatoos everywhere...  OUTRAGE.
Best advice I got as a new parent...get outraged easily when your kids start doing it.  It will satisfy their need to outrage, and is better than waiting until they start doing something even more outrageous and/or stupid than I did when I was younger.

The artificial demand created by welfare programs has driven the cost up. The rest is ancillary.

People choose to see things a certain way. Usually because they sympathize with a result. I must be clear that I pass no judgement on the intentions. I am sure they are genuine.

There is NOTHING ISIS is doing that Muhammad did not.  That does not hold true to your statement.

Didn't realize you were an expert on Islam.  But wutevz.  There are all kinds of religions that each believe theirs is the only "true" one, that pit themselves against the others and fight.  My point is simply to be specific.  There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world.  You want to go to war with all of them, then generalize.

About 20% of Muslims are radicalized so I guess it's only 320 million we have to fight.

When my daughter was about 3 she got angry about something and called me a "doodyhead".

Being a good Christian I did as the Lord commanded and stoned her to death:

    Matthew 15:4
For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.'

In the correct context of that scripture "curses" is not used as "saying a bad word".  In the original text it actually means "murderous intent"......which is still punishable with the death penalty in our current legal system.

Sunni, Shia, Kurds - Yazidis, the list continues. Region, country, demagogue, most at war internally, some with the western world, some with Christianity. Trying to place Islam in a single category is futile.
To make a broad swath judgement, based on the representation provided by extremely vocal personalities, with a personal agenda, is difficult for me to do.
Clinton, Trump, Sanders, all of the candidates have urgent needs to promise whatever it takes to get elected.
Look at the history of each candidate, whoever gets elected, that is your future.
