 Along the same lines why lock everyone in their homes, I know there are exceptions to everything but it seems that if you are in a high risk category you should take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and family.  If you are not, don't have any reason to contact anyone who is you should be able to go to work.

I think the answer is that it's just an incredibly infectious disease, and it's actually very difficult for people to isolate.

Look at people in nursing homes, for example.  Obviously they're stuck in an environment where they need to interact with others and the staff.  So you can say well the staff should isolate, but even there these people live in their own homes and have to eat, acquire groceries, etc.

I'm personally not advocating for forced vaccinations by any stretch, by the way.  If needed I'd rather see them incentivized somehow.  Perhaps people who are vaccinated receive an additional stimulus check, or something.

The goal here is really to get to the point where community spread is very limited, such that minor outbreaks can be contained.  It's hard to do that unless we get to a minimum threshold for vaccination in the community.

This is why the anti-vaccers are so problematic, by the way.  Suddenly you have an outbreak in the community because herd immunity is no longer in play. 

There is a point at which personal choice impacts the greater public, and that's the issue here.    

I'm "pro-vaccination" but I think whether or not people are vaccinated is far less important than making sure everyone has the opportunity to get vaccinated.  If you have the opportunity to get vaccinated and you choose not to, you are accepting the risk of getting the virus, but you are less of a risk to the general population because many / most will have been vaccinated.  Once everyone has had a reasonable opportunity to get vaccinated, there should be no reason for life to not return to normal.

My wife was vaccinated on Thursday and I received my first dose this morning. We are both frontline workers. No issues whatsoever so far.  The vast majority of those that actually see what is going on are getting it without hesitation. Those choosing not to get it are making that decision out of fear but not logic and I can understand that. But if you choose not to get it at least wear a damn mask. Anyone refusing both masks and vaccinations deserve to be locked up until this is over. As a front line worker I am sick of the selfish and privileged attitudes of many Americans .

Brother Blind, had someone asked me about the vaccine just a few days ago I would of laughed at them just as I have laughed at the mask wearers for the past 9 months. 

However sometimes certain things really hit home and change one’s perspective. I just arrived home from a life long friends services. His funeral is tomorrow. He died from complications with the virus. With that said with a very heavy and hurt heart, I will take the vaccine. And my apologies to all the people that I insulted and ridiculed about the mask.
