We started getting them today at work. We received 975 vials this morning... and of course as we are 1 of 10 in Ohio we had to have the news there to watch them start giving it.My wife get it tomorrow as she unfortunately works with covid pts ( we’ve got 200+ as of 6pm).XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

@ryantt Tremendous appreciation to your wife for what she does. She and all her co-workers across the world are doing the true heavy lifting and could benefit form more support, at least here. Please extend my thanks for her sustained efforts and challenging work. A true hero!
I am cautiously hopeful that many will come to their senses and get the vaccine. I hope the publicity campaign kicks into full gear on this. It sounds like we’re going to need it. It sure would be nice if next spring and summer looks and feels a lot different than this past one.
Someday too I look forward to reading more about the development of these vaccines. I hope we all come to learn the names of some of the unsung heroes behind the science of their development. It truly is a remarkable achievement, and it’s probably something that wasn’t possible only five years ago."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

We could always hit the antivaxers with tranquilizer darts and immunize them in a van and let them out in a cornfield somewhere. Maybe clip an ear or something.______________________________________________I love lamp..

At this point in the game, rather than 13,000 random nurses, I'd be more interested in seeing what % of nurses/doctors/orderlies/etc. that work directly with Covid patients won't take the shots until they become mandatory.

I’m hopeful that it gets to nursing homes soon. My Mother is a resident. But, she’s in a small town in rural Ohio, so it may not get there for awhile. She’s tested positive, but is asymptomatic.

Couldn't we just skip the whole tranquilizer step? Put the vaccine IN the dart.nolaegghead said:We could always hit the antivaxers with tranquilizer darts and immunize them in a van and let them out in a cornfield somewhere. Maybe clip an ear or something.

seeing we get a free microchip with the vaccine, couldnt we just set up scanners in restaurants, walmarts etc entrance ways and exclude the antivaxers

I don't understand the mind set that you have to go out a vaccinate people who don't want it. I also don't understand locking everyone in their home.IMO if you want the vaccine go get it, if you don't for whatever reason then don't.Along the same lines why lock everyone in their homes, I know there are exceptions to everything but it seems that if you are in a high risk category you should take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and family. If you are not, don't have any reason to contact anyone who is you should be able to go to work. This will be a wildly unpopular position on this forum, enter the trolls in 3...2...1..South of Columbus, Ohio.

Maybe if they did not paint the lock down with such a broad brush more people would have listened.

For me the down-side of this virus makes everything else out there for which we have vaxers and non-vaxers pale in comparison. This carries quite a death penalty potential, much different than measles (making a comeback) or polio.
If the death penalty was limited to those who get the virus and don't spread it, that would be one thing, but it's not.
Off soap-box!

The problem is only in small part the anti vaccine folks. There has been a full blown concerted effort by media talking heads and political actors and political “experts” who hate Cheeto man to discredit the efficacy of the vaccine. These are the ones responsible if there is a reluctance among the general public. Any carnage going forward due to reluctance of participation is on their hands. As for the Anti Vaccine crowd, what are you gonna do? It’s their body, their choice. Right?

I almost wonder if it will be the private sector requiring vaccines. For example the airline industry requiring vaccination in order to fly. I will be interesting times ahead. Just hoping that the thousands of small businesses who have been forced to stop providing for their family can recover.South of Columbus, Ohio.

just did a quick count of people i know and deal with, was easy to get to 20. 2 are dead, 3 currently have it, 2 of those are maskless and still going to work, the other walks into my shop to tell me he and his wife and daughter currently have it (this went over well with the employees here) 1 was sent home with it so he hired contractors to work in his home, and went riding with friends and didnt tell them til later. when this first started and i heard some countries were putting ankle bracelets on those that tested positive i thought that was going too far, well maybe it isnt

I think the answer is that it's just an incredibly infectious disease, and it's actually very difficult for people to isolate.alaskanassasin said:I don't understand the mind set that you have to go out a vaccinate people who don't want it. Look at people in nursing homes, for example. Obviously they're stuck in an environment where they need to interact with others and the staff. So you can say well the staff should isolate, but even there these people live in their own homes and have to eat, acquire groceries, etc.
I'm personally not advocating for forced vaccinations by any stretch, by the way. If needed I'd rather see them incentivized somehow. Perhaps people who are vaccinated receive an additional stimulus check, or something.
The goal here is really to get to the point where community spread is very limited, such that minor outbreaks can be contained. It's hard to do that unless we get to a minimum threshold for vaccination in the community.
This is why the anti-vaccers are so problematic, by the way. Suddenly you have an outbreak in the community because herd immunity is no longer in play.
There is a point at which personal choice impacts the greater public, and that's the issue here.

I agree, but for your nursing home scenario, it’s easier to lock down a whole
state than lock down nursing employees, give them hazard pay, whatever. I think hindsight will be 20-20 and hopefully time will heal.South of Columbus, Ohio. -
