Ehh I won’t be eligible for a while so I’ve got time to think about it. Asking you smart doctor folk how fast would we typically see side effects once it is reaching levels of say 1M people inoculated? Also once we find those side effects how soon can we determine who is at risk for those side effects and how severe are they? Are we talking years for this to be visible or months?

I’m making the assumption that they have “estimates” based on clinical trials but I’m also assuming once it’s in the general population in greater numbers those estimates begin to solidify. I don’t want to take anything that could cause issues later but I also want to get over this shitefest we are currently in now.

At least we're not getting Sputnik or whatever the Russian vaccine is....they say no drinking for a month or two after vaccination or it's not as effective.  I'm sure that's just another way of getting their people to not take an ineffective vaccine.
I saw that and just assumed Vlad had some ulterior motive, like trying to hide a pending vodka shortage from the population or something.

Could you imagine whatever number of alcoholics in Russia going through DTs simultaneously?  This is the stuff that overthrows governments.

Put me in the maybe pile. Let’s see how the round 1-4 guinea pigs come thru. If there are little to no issues, count me in. I, like others, worry about long term side effects. 8 months to market is very impressive in the pharma game.

Anyone else realize that Pfizer owns the lab where the virus originated? Hmmmmm

I don't think the issue is so much side effects - those are kind of always there with vaccines, things like headaches, sore arms, and etc. that are bothersome but largely temporary.  I'm pretty sure these vaccines have those.

I think probably what you're asking about are like truly adverse side effects like someone getting so sick in response to the vaccine that they actually had to be hospitalized, or something like that, right?

My understanding from what I've read is that the number of instances of things like that is really very low from people who were in the trials.  Given the numbers (tens of thousands) I would think we would know from the study data were those a significant concern, statistically.  But some of the MDs here can probably say a lot more.

They found 2 people have severe allergic reactions to the vaccine in the UK.  Both people carried epi-pens because of a history of anaphylactic shock.

    I wouldn't think even Fox would promote that...but hey, it's 2020.

General statement:  There is no connection between autism and vaccinations.  There was a paper written years ago by a British scientist that failed peer review and was retracted.  People have been mining data trying to find that relationship and it has not been found to-date.  In absence of any scientific relationship between the two, the connection only exists outside of scientific circles as a junk science (not science) and conspiracy.

I think most everyone knows this, just stating the obvious.

PSA:  If you carry an EpiPen around with you, you should *NOT* get vaccinated without talking to your doctor.  If you are in a high risk group or working the front lines and really need the vaccination, your doctor will want to arrange for you to be monitored after the shot somewhere that can handle anaphylactic reactions.  Or they will recommend you don't get the shot.  Just talk to your doctor first.

I was talking to my rheumatologist about the vaccines a few weeks ago. Since my injections for psoriatic arthritis compromise my immune system I will wait for more feedback from her. In general patients who are taking Ustekinumab like I do have not had as bad of a reaction to COVID as expected for being immune compromised. The way it works to stop your immune system from attacking the body may actually be helpful against COVID but there’s not enough data to make any conclusions (at least there wasn’t a few weeks ago).

So yes I will take it but I will be working with my doctor to determine if/when I should. I am getting the Pneumovax 23 vaccination this week per her recommendation and I get the flu shot every year as well.

Yep.  I'm getting the vax because if the other crap I put into my body hasn't killed me yet, the vax surely won't hurt.  I am in a medium risk group and am more afraid of the long term cardiovascular effects.  This is one insidious disease.   That and I care for my elderly parents.   If I give it to them, they'll die.

  • I would take the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines in a heartbeat. As I see it though I probably won’t be offered it until Easter or so, 60 with 1 pre existing condition and no longer a critical employee. I already have spent an hour talking my parents into taking it as soon as offered. I described the likely side effects and to not let that convince them to skip the second shot.
The AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson vaccines, I am not convinced of yet . We will have to have at least one of them at least in order to get everybody vaccinated by Labor Day though. The Pfizer and Moderna will only have enough vaccine for 150 million by mid summer.
