How many of you actually know someone that has tested positive? I just found out my sister tested positive. She's 43 and so far only lost all sense of smell and taste, mild fever and kind of sick. Shes still walking around and cooking/cleaning though.

A co-worker’s cousin is in ICU with covid.  She’s an EMT.

Read an article today that several large hospitals and chains are considering establishing a global DNR for any covid patients.

Shameful for this to be occurring anywhere, but more so in the richest (and most advanced?) country in the world.  Those in leadership positions, I hesitate to use the word leaders, have much to answer for.

One of the members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Ben Sasse, represents my state, Nebraska.  After the insider trading allegations concerning the chairman of that committee, Richard Burr, came to light, I posted questions to the office of Senator Sasse.   What did you know?  When did you know it?  If you knew in Feb as Senator Burr did, why did you keep quiet?  That was on Monday, still awaiting a response.

Again, what we are witnessing is shameful in my mind.

Holy crap!  So sorry, that’s awful - I know there are going to be so many more of these stories, but it’s scary when it starts to burst that personal bubble.

Very sorry to hear about TFJ's sister.  Hopefully she stays in the "mild" category.  As long as she can breath and eat, she should stay home.  At the hospital there's oxygen, IV fluids, and (hopefully) ventilators - and a lot of other sick people that you don't want your friends and family to visit - so it's even more lonely than being quarantined in many ways. 

I am hopeful that here on the I-35 corridor in Austin and San Antonio we are flattening the curve, but we won't really know for another week or two.  Our university/hospital just developed its own test so we have increased testing capacity here in SAT.  I expect our number of known/proven cases to go up significantly over the next few days as a result.  I have not heard a lot out of Austin.

So far so good. Mild symptoms, cough, low grade fever and some body aches. She’s safe for now and we are all hoping she stays stable. 

That’s awesome news that you developed your own test. Kind of a shame that you had to but awesome ingenuity from your team! 

Several people have commented and texted so thought I would provide a quick update. 

First of all- thanks for the concern!  She’s doing fine and is up and about around the house. It’s been pretty mild in her case. She’s not even sure she has it but she’s under the assumption she does. Can’t get tested. It looks like she will be ok unless it takes a turn but she is feeling better after a few days. She’s really frustrated she can’t get tested so she could get back to work if she’s negative. 

On a brighter note, I was able to secure her a new supply of surgical masks. They are not the N95 type but she is not normally in emergency intake situations. She has been using a single surgical mask for months. Crazy. I flew thousands of them in from one of our long time partners in China and will get them to her and any remaining to the front lines here as quickly as possible. 

Thanks again for reaching out. So far so good! I’ll, keep you guys posted with any developments that matter.

4 in my office that I know of, as of a week ago, as well as a rep who supports us.  Surgeon friend of mine in Madrid was sick yesterday, positive today, along with 5 of his 11 partners.  Many good wishes for your sister to recover quickly.
