Coffee (black) drinker here, tea is too refined for a simpleton like me.  To be clear though, I still embrace my effeminate side.  Of note in the Guardian article is the question of tea or milk in first.  That question has some historical significance in the statistics realm of science, it led to advancing acceptance of the null-hypothesis in crafting experiments.

Dunking, squeezing milffy ::how_interesting

Edit: Just made one... Prewarmed mug with hot water, half filled cup before adding tea bag then topped up. Dunked and squeezed tea bag before removal. Added pinch of salt, few drops of lemon, warm milk. Can't taste the salt, will try again without lemon. Decent overall.

Related to this, I did once read that a pinch of salt can improve a cup of black coffee.  Cuts the bitterness, or something. But I’ve never tried it.

Coffee and water, like Red Bull are mere fads.  Tea will never be usurped.  Are people drinking more, yes.  Are they drinking less tea, no. 

I say that as a badged statistician, by virtue of reading the link from @dbcooper.  

 

There are some staples, for you tea novices.  

Yes, make in a ceramic pot whenever possible, resting on a mat to prevent heat sink and under a cosy. (Google it they are traditional headwear for Dad’s throughout 🇬🇧) 
Use very hot water, just below boiling. 
I thought squeezing caused the tannins - so that’s a bonus. 

I also thought adding hot water to milk, when using the more prevalent ‘make it in the mug’ method caused the off taste.  

And @JohnInCarolina - I see what you did.

Always temper milk, regardless of what you are adding it too.  I would expect a forum full of cooks to kno…. Oh, who am I kidding.  This is like a Ferrari forum.  1 out of a 1000 actually own a Ferrari, the rest are just dreaming.
