The “like” was for support alone. What an awful story. I often try to tell my kids that they should be intrinsically motivated, and not rely upon accolades from others. Hope that those lessons stick, but if not, I hope they don’t seek their peers’ approval with this kind of stunt. Tragic - not only for the child’s friends and family, but for the driver and any passengers, as well as for first responders.

I also often tell my kids that life is all about making the mistakes, but that the art is to make them as least impactful as possible.
I can’t even imagine what the driver is going through.  It was at night and driver saw one kid, swerved to miss him and struck the second kid he didn’t see.  First kid got clipped and broke a leg.

I 100% agree, if we can get our kids to be intrinsically motivated and not concerned with others it would be amazing for them.

My son’s best friend committed suicide at 14.  My son was so mad because all the kids who bullied him and his friend and were just awful human beings, pretended that they were great friends with the kid they bullied.  The school even had these kids speak at the assembly and tell their favorite memories and other ****.  My son said it was all **** and just made it 1000x worse for my son and their actual friend group.  They had to deal with it by themselves.  The parents didn’t even have a service for their son.

Sorry to get sidetracked.  I pretty much hate bullies of any stripe.

@Ozzie_Isaac that is a criminal shame.  Someone(s) need to be held accountable and then the whole thing made available as a teaching event.
I have said the four things you can give your kids are Love, Time, Values and Education.  Over the years I have added choosing your Friends.  The challenge most times becomes, "Who has skin in the game?" If they don't then this is not gonna turn out well.
I like @GrateEggspectations "intrinsically motivated" approach but that is a tall order these days especially at the age when such issues get traction in their environment (most likely school).

Very sorry to read that Ozzie. That is devastating. Hopefully the investigators will get to the bottom of it and hold the others accountable. If it’s on video hopefully there is context that supports the peer pressure. Damn sad regardless.
I hope so too.  I just don’t have much faith unfortunately.  We have seen this first hand before.  Schools have zero motivation and police don’t have the resources.  Will be death my misadventure and nobody will be held accountable.

Cute pony. I can’t imagine what your school community is going through. Prayers for all of you.

I watch the kids in my own kids grades socially interact. (3rd and 1st). The social aspect of it is alarming. They’re already forming cliques. My son marches to the beat of his own drum. Friends with the nerds cus he’s into Pokémon, friends with the athletes cus he’s good at soccer.

Learned something interesting and may explain why one of my thermapens died sooner than the other one.  I store one of them in a drawer that happen to have some rare earth magnets in it.  I just noticed the magnets themselves will turn it on.

First, I am glad I grew up prior to social media taking hold of everyone's life.  I watch so many kids get wrapped up in receiving "likes" on whatever platform it may be.  If a post doesn't trend well, it gets deleted and re-published with different language or a pic from a different angle.  They OBSESS over this stuff and it wrecks them inside.  I don't know what the solution is but I am trying to steer my kids away from that lifeless vacuum that is ever increasingly blurring the lines between reality and. . . whatever you want to call it.  I mean the majority of the pics/stunts/vids now are not even real.  It is AI or someone in a greenscreen suit completing the feat.  Makes me sad.  And then to read @Ozzie_Isaac story...this story is played out in every town to some extent.

@billt01 I have managed to keep @swmbo away from horses, we know people with horses and she can go ride those if she has a hankering, and she hasn't.  But I came here to point out the obvious, before you go down the livestock rabbit hole, consider the strings attached.  The biggest for us is travel, luckily we have a farm sitter/friend who feeds everyone while we are gone, but it is a pain in the ass, if you want to shoot down somewhere for the weekend, well it's not that easy.

Nailed it. Between horses and dogs travel is very hard.  Aside from the obvious expenses associated with horses, even when they are on your own property, the difficulty in spur of the moment travel, or hell just staying out late should not be minimized.  I love the horses, but if it weren’t for my daughter I would probably not have them anymore.

That is definitely "Better to be lucky than good" right there.  Those tix aren't cheap.  I'll be out there Friday.
There are a few threads (hopefully the search feature here will find) regarding a visit here.  Given your bourbon connections you may be able to get access to some of the more scarce bourbons right from the distillery.
I will be happy to send any info you are interested via PM.

Her hair was much shorter in that spring/summer photo shoot.
Her Eras Tour schedule presents a real challenge to attend the Super Bowl given performing in Tokyo Feb 7-10.  However, with the 11 hour time difference between Tokyo and Vegas, it could happen!!!
All you NFL/Swifties fans need to get working on it.

@ColbyLang - Great opening salvo right there.  Bardstown is a great launch point.  As this closes in, be mindful that tours fill quickly, many grabbed by the tour bus fleet. Only released back to us commoners once they can't fill their buy around 2-3 days out.
I would look at Lawrenceburg for Wild Turkey and Four Roses instead of Lexington but your call.
Check in with your connections as you will likely get great recommendations for the smaller distilleries as well.
Edit to add:  I'll meet you on the 5th hole green-side Friday...time TBD  😉

The Roccbox was on sale at Christmas so I figured something new was coming out. I wonder how long that digital readout will last.

I will say that the Roccbox build quality is quite a bit higher than other competitors.  So the digital thermo might be more durable than you’d guess.

Anyway, I think most people use an IR gun to check the surface of the floor.

Yep-Saturday May 4th.  And Derby 150.  The $$$ will be flying about.
However, the Spring meet runs as noted here-Churchill Downs: Apr. 27-June 30 on a Wednesday-Sunday schedule, with exceptions on GI Kentucky Derby week and the Memorial Day holiday week.
You can always invest on the ponies.  The golf and bourbon duo may be a great one-off.  FWIW-

I'm happy with my Roccbox, but I gotta way, that new one is sure appealing.
Incidentally, if you're going to buy an IR thermometer, be sure to check the max temp. I didn't and have one too low for the pizza oven.
