  • I'm at a pub downtown watching the SF and Lions game. At this time of night there are a lot of people that work in the kitchen which is closed, that come out for a drink or two. I know most of them pretty well. One of the bartenders was talking about some football player that just signed a contract extension. My friggin brain came out with this stupid nugget ...

You know Damian, I had an extension in the late eighties. It was three or six inches, all depends if I folded it

The real big one will be on Saturday.  She just won the first semifinal.

  • Crap, wish I knew that match was tonight. Prolly betta than this fball game, though Mahomes is fun to watch. I love his cleats and how they make his feet take him down the field sometimes. I want to know where he got those, although, come to think of it, I don't have a field.

  • You can't always bring hard wood. It depends on the time of day and the age of the wood. I'll tell you this, as you age, the later in the day the more difficult it's going to be, to bring the hard wood. At some point, if you don't bring the wood early in the morning it's gonna be floppy, which I think is the opposite of hard.
  • I just went with pine. Cedar was ridiculously expensive. I plan to stain it and keep it covered so I’m hoping to get a good run from it.

  • Made mine out of cedar. Only because, .. at the time I had a lot of time on my hands, a full woodshop in my basement ,a cedar fence that fell down, and my hands and legs were still able to handle the shop and stairs. I had to bring the fence downstairs in pieces, let it dry out for a long time, (very wet when I started), plane it all down once, let it sit, plane it again, let it sit. For the frame, I had to laminate all the thin fence sections into thick pieces with waterproof glue. It was a long long project, because of my condition, but I picked away at it, kind of knowing it was the last project I'd be able to make in my shop. If I had to buy cedar at a lumbar yard, I don't think I would have made it out of cedar either. I just had the time to slowly do it with the fencing and the machines I had. I posted pictures of it a while back. Took me many months to complete because of my situation, but it came out nice, I used pegged mortis and tenon joints for the frame. As I see it, as long as you stain it and take care of it pine should be fine. Covering it is even better.

Make sure it's in a place where it can get sun too. My cedar table was out on my brick patio, which was surrounded by trees, that grew too tall and the table started to look like it was turning green. I think It got wet but never got direct sunlight enough to fully dry out, which is bad for any wood, any time of the day.

No PL this weekend lads, it’s that pesky international break. Our glorious nations are playing the qualification rounds of the Euros, the finals of which are in Germany next June - FYI.

But you have some top level kick-ball to enthral and entice you on Saturday.   The second best team of the USA, being USANT host the mighty Uzbekistan (international dialling code +998  FYI)  Finally, a reason to visit St Louis and the Citypark stadium that has received great plaudits, such as ‘tons of food and beer’ and ‘no re-entry once you go out’.  Good to know.

My forecast is that with parking prices starting at $40 lift share is a strong option or use the Civic Centre stop on either the red or blue line of Metrolink and walk 15 minutes.  Here to help / make cursory search of Google.

Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay

Also, all the trees in front of the Bellagio were cut down this week to make room for the F1 grandstands. Many of them were transplanted from The Dunes golf course that occupied the hotel space in the 60’s.

Not sure I’ve ever watched a F1 race, but I know I won’t going forward after seeing the dirty business behind since they announced a race here.

@GrateEggspectations - That is a good read and you may want to post in the "What are you drinking..." thread.
I have not tried all of their best everyday offerings (but many outside their listing) so I won't disagree with the selections but add 4 Roses Single Barrel.  As you well know, your bourbon palette is unique.  Same with the sipping/aka high proof offerings.
And here is a bit more info that I have distilled... B)
    Legal Requirements-

Bourbon's legal definition varies somewhat from country to country, but many trade agreements require that the name "bourbon" be reserved for products made in the U.S. The U.S. regulations for labeling and advertising bourbon apply only to products made for consumption within the U.S.; they do not apply to distilled spirits made for export. Canadian law requires products labeled bourbon to be made in the U.S. and also to conform to the requirements that apply within the U.S. The European Union also requires bourbon to be made in the U.S. following the law of the country. But in other countries, products labeled bourbon may not adhere to the same standards.

The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits, codified under 27 CFR §5.22(b)(1)(i), states bourbon made for U.S. consumption must be:

    Official Bourbon Requirements

    • Made with at least 51% corn in the mash bill
    • Aged in charred new oak barrels
    • Made in the United States
    • Distilled to a maximum of 160 proof (80% ABV)
    • Barreled at a maximum of 125 proof (62.5% ABV)
    • Bottled at a minimum of 80 proof (40% ABV) and a maximum of 150 proof (75% ABV)
    • No flavorings or colorings may be added

Bourbon has no minimum specified duration for its aging period. Products aged for as little as three months are sold as bourbon. The exception is straight bourbon, which has a minimum aging requirement of two years. In addition, any bourbon aged less than four years must include an age statement on its label.

    • Bourbon that is labeled as straight that has been aged under four years must be labeled with the duration of its aging.
    • Bourbon that has an age stated on its label must be labeled with the age of the youngest whiskey in the bottle (not counting the age of any added in a bourbon that is labeled as blended, as neutral-grain spirits are not considered whiskey under the regulations and are not required to be aged at all).

Bottled-in-bond bourbon is a sub-category of straight bourbon and must be aged at least four years.

Bourbon that is labeled blended (or as a blend) may contain added coloring, flavoring, and other spirits, such as un-aged neutral grain spirits, but at least 51% of the product must be straight bourbon.

"High rye bourbon" is not a legally defined term but usually means a bourbon with 20–35% rye. High-wheat bourbons are described as more mild and subdued compared to high-rye varieties.

Bourbon that has been aged for fewer than three years cannot legally be referred to as whiskey (or whisky) in the EU.

On May 4, 1964, the U.S. Congress recognized bourbon whiskey as a "distinctive product of the United States" by concurrent resolution. Bourbon may be produced anywhere in the U.S. where it is legal to distill spirits, but most are produced in Kentucky, where bourbon production has a strong historical association. The filtering of iron-free water through the high concentrations of limestone that are unique to the area is often touted by bourbon distillers in Kentucky as a signature step in the bourbon-making process.
