Scrolling through social media. Apparently we are on the brink (again?) of a nuclear holocaust/WW3 because of a Russian Civil War. Sounds fun.Las Vegas, NV

Unfortunately Vlad the Impaler and his 3rd world country only has one chip to play. That is the nuke. As desperate as this may become for him, I don't think he would want to play that card against his own citizens. But staying in power is a hard draw. Time will tell.

Trying to book hotel reservations for me and gf for upcoming CE. Already have the conference and flight arrangements taken care of..Also trying not to pull out the rest of my hair on this shift today. If the fluid pumps aren’t alarming … then the phones are ringing non-stop and it’s everyone calling with stupid questions.
My dog was hit by car… his leg is dangling but I don’t want to bring it in… what can I do at home..

I put together 50 practice kits for the Fall semester at a local high school, where the students are building an airplane. I’m an unpaid mentor. Experience has shown us that these high school students generally have zero hands-on experience building something, and most don’t know basic things like which way to turn a screw or push a file. At the far left you can see a prototype kit, assembled. This teaches them most of the basic techniques for building an aluminum airplane.I didn’t design the kit, that was done by some people in another state. But these include rewritten directions and some added hardware, to give them practice in things that we’ve had problems in the past. There are a few extra kits, because we’ve learned that some students totally botch their first one and need a re-do. Two of the students who were juniors last Spring are taking the class again in their senior year, and are sufficiently experienced now to assist the newbies. They’ll help me, the teacher and the other mentor. Unlike traditional classroom learning, this pretty much requires s high percentage of mentor time. For example, I can manage four or five students at a time, but not more. Once they are building the actual airplane, the mentor workload drops; they are past the initial part of the learning curve by then.
Each kit has the directions, three pieces of aluminum, a screw, washer and nutplate, and will have 13 rivets when they all arrive. Four per kit are missing right now.
Someone’s bound to be wondering…. The airplane is a Van’s RV-12iS. This is a light two-seater with a 100 hp motor. The money for it was donated. The airplane cost, as it’s configured now and in today’s prices, is just under $114,500. That includes the electronics, the engine and prop, the interior, everything except consumables and tools. It’s terribly easy to spend $3,500 for the tools. The company has six or seven other airplanes in its current kit offerings, from other two-seaters to a four-seat airplane. There’s even a single-seater that I think has been discontinued.

@Corv - what a great way to use your skills to benefit the real world learning for the students. I am quite sure your and the other mentor's time and efforts are very much appreciated across the board. Thank you for sharing the above. Your students are in great hands.

I have spent the better part of the past hour surfing local TV channels trying to find one that would intersperse their high drama weather coverage with other news. No joy. There was some weather out there, but no reported power outages. Just the adrenaline juice acquired in the weather college degree course of drama. Some guessers are much better than others!

My clutch on my truck has been acting up the last few months. When pushing in my clutch to start my truck I've noticed I've had to push in my clutch further and further to get the truck to turn over. To the point where I had the clutch to the floor and took a few different times of trying to start it before it would fire . The clutch works perfectly when rolling through gears. Since my issue was only at start up and progressively got worse with my clutch, my safe assumption was that it was the clutch starter safety switch. I picked up a Napa version of the clutch safety switch that took a day to come in. I swapped it out and I couldn't even get the truck to turn over with the new clutch switch. So that was a no go. I put the old switch back in and it started right up. Huh? It wasn't a permanent fix as I could tell the clutch was pushed in further than normal but it was better than it has been in the previous weeks. As time went on it eventually started going bad once again. So I went to remove the switch again to clean it but this time I cracked off an internal plastic slide when removing it. Not ideal. My truck was down for the count. I called the local Ford dealer and the fastest they could get one shipped in was 6 days as I wanted to use OEM (Motorcraft) as the generic Napa version didn't work previously. Six days was too much time to have a vehicle down. So I found a brand new Motorcraft clutch switch on Ebay with 3 day shipping. I had a chance to install it tonight. I go and fire up the truck and I get nothing. It doesn't even try to turn over. Great. I take it back off and look everything over. I don't notice anything. I hook it back up once again and try turning the truck over. Nothing. Ugh!!! At this point I'm looking up tow dolly rentals as I'm out of options. My truck has already been down 4 days but I've been very fortunate to borrow my Dad's truck in the meantime. I'd hate to keep borrowing his truck and figured I'd better just bring it in. It bugged me as I knew it has to be the starting safety switch. A light bulb went off in my head. I thought, "What if I change out all the old internal pieces in the old switch and replace them with the new internal pieces from the new switch. (I noticed wiring plug was much tighter in the new switch than it was on the old switch.) So I swapped over parts and made a mix of a new and old parts. I hooked it back up and the truck fired right up. Whoa! I was not expecting that to work. It works as good if not better than it ever has. I nice way to end the weekend! Lucky, lucky, lucky!

I went to go visit Mr.Potatohead from the old forum this past weekend up in the woods in northern MN. I watched the package come in from my phone. I was hoping it would be a quick fix when getting home from a 4 hour road trip home. Not so much. I think I removed/installed my driver's seat 3 different times in 45 minutes so I could get my upper body up under the dash to even access the switch each time I had to take it out.

No surprise here with your troubleshooting abilities. Way to stay after it and get it fixed.
