I just realized that pretty soon the number of pages in this thread will match the current year.  When that happens, do the lights go off?

I run a campground now.  Had to kick people out yesterday for drug use (police involvement) and put out a dumpster fire.  Hoping for a better day today.  😀

    Carnitas, one of my favorites.

@Ozzie_Isaac This looks great.  Will you give a description of what I'm seeing here?

Did you roast in the pan the whole time to let the pork confit in its own rendered fat?  Did you just add to the pan to crisp up at the end?

    Almost half the price.

I'm not @thetrim, and I didn't stay at a hotel last night, but here's my quick reason.

I bought my first Saab about three weeks after my 25th birthday (when the rates go down a significant amount); this was about 1 March.  I was quoted an exorbitant price by USAA, and I called them up and pointed out that I'd turned 25 in mid-February; she told me my Saab would be added to my Rustang's policy, which I'd renewed in January (when I was 24).  I said, "Well, I'll just cancel that policy and buy new, for both vehicles, tomorrow".  She replied, in an extremely snotty voice, "Oh, you can't do that, we keep track!"

I hung up, with great vigor, and talked to State Farm the next day, hoping I could get a 5-month policy from them to carry me over.  They showed me I could save money by switching, AND they could give me coverage of my musical equipment, which USAA never could.  I signed up.

Got home and called USAA.  By a VERY happy coincidence, I got the same operator!  I reminded her of her previous response, and cancelled my car, and my home, insurance.  With Great Vigor!

I've had a few incidences over the years with State Farm, and they've very supportive.  I'm a customer for life.

I cut up a pork shoulder into large chunks.  I place a single layer in a pan.  I used a paella pan because my large CI needs reseasoning.

I salt the pork and then, not kidding, fill the pan halfway up with Mexican coke (kind with real cane sugar).  Then I cook open top at 350-400 for about 3-4 hours.  Occasionally flipping to get lots of crispy edge goodness.

The water in the coke boils out and the pork cooks in its own fats and some sugar just like you mentioned.  It is probably my favorite way to cook pork shoulder.

The price difference was significant enough that I would be doing my family a severe disservice by not looking elsewhere.

My 16 y/o daughter got her license yesterday (that could be a thread all it's own).  Four cars, four drivers (two teens) are not in USAA's wheelhouse.  Our 6 month premium was going to raise to right around $5,800.  Our four extravagant cars ('06 Corolla Sport edition; '14 Beetle convertible, '15 Jetta base model, '19 Highlander base model) don't warrant that.  We have one ticket between all of us almost 5 years ago (Thank you Sulfur, LA police department).  Both my kids have taken a driver safety course and qualify for the good student discount.  I wanted to look only at GEICO and Team FLO, so I knew I'd be getting another top tier company and wouldn't be f'd if I needed to file claim.

Team FLO came in just over $3k/ 6 months.  Sorry USAA, it's been real, it's been fun, but it hasn't been twice the price fun..  I am kicking myself I didn't make the change a couple years ago.  I could've bought a lot of SRF briskets w that money.
