Had to confront a neighbor about dumping his storm debris in my yard instead of bagging it and taking it to the street.Of course he was indignant. People are ridiculous.XL & MM BGE, 36" Blackstone - Newport News, VA

Really good week out at Sandia. I got a lot of stuff done, and they’re very happy with the work I’ve been doing for them. They’ve been funding my research for 11 years straight now.
I also managed to get up to Santa Fe for a really nice dinner just off the square."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -

Should you scroll up a few entries you will find an entry about a MIL visit and a paella cook. Here's the close to finish cook after one he!! of an audible and still finished within 5 minutes of the target time:And here's why the pan exceeds the diameter of the SBGE (15.5 " pan which I ensured an air gap (using 3 lag bolts) around the perimeter):That would be the LBGE running at around 400*F on the dome when I went to shut the lower vent for the above paella cook and the sideways motion took off. Making a valiant effort to salvage and then realizing this wasn't gonna work, away it went. Garden hose to take care of the fire. Base is salvageable along with the ring. Need a new dome, hinge assembly and fire box. Just my lucky day. Dealer does not have a dome in stock. So for those of you who wonder about the value of a second cooker (pedigree be da-ned) a back-up is quite handy. Never thought I would press it into service in this fashion but the paella turned out great. No finish pics but a lesson above. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Whoa there, calm down lads - its OK, I've not forgotten about the football.
However it's what we like to call an International break this weekend.
More precisely, there's a series of Euro 2020 qualifying matches.
These are the pre-amble to the finals next Summer and pitches the familiar with the exotic from across Europe. From Germany, Spain et al through to San Marino, Estonia and Slovenia. 55, yes fifty-five different countries taking part. A small gift to whoever names them all without using that there t'internet.
Of course, because democracy is the only way - at some point that total might or might not be 54, 53, 52 or 51 because apparently we (the UK, with four different teams involved) think it's a great idea to leave the single biggest trading bloc without any plan, whatsoever. Probably.
Anyhoo - here's the skinny, already the Dutch have humped the Germans in their own backyard 4-2. Scotland were abysmal (standard) against Russia, losing 2-1. Wales (Gareth Bale) edged past football titans Azerbaijan. If only Ryan Giggs could be as relentless and tenacious with his team as he was towards his sister-in-law. (Google it).
England welcome Bulgaria this afternoon, a country made famous by the Wombles (Google it). Then on Tuesday evening it's Kosovo.
Only two possible outcomes for each; 'Sorry England lose/struggle past minnows' or ' Imperious mighty super England smash tough, gritty, relentless (insert name here).
Elsewhere I see that good ole Amer-a-key are hosting Homer Simpson's favourite team on Wednesday. Fun-times indeed.
My highlight is the full 1lb rump that's to be reverse seared tonight, currently residing in my fridge. Still not nailed a good crust on any steak yet, might re-oil tonight for the direct sear at 350C. Any better suggestions, let me know please.Other girls may try to take me away

@YukonRon - The band and dome were fine. The effort applied to shut the lower vent the last 1/2" (even after I had degreased the track (obviously with a poor outcome) the day before) with the dome open was enough to start the whole deal sitting in the nest tipping to the left (when facing the BGE) and back. I quickly realized I was not gonna stop it so I just watched it fall. The base is fine as the majority of the landing area is mulched with plants. The dome made it to the patio and that's all she wrote.

Doing a bucket list cook today. Beef ribs. I am guessing this cook will go into a regular rotation.
On my way to the butcher this morning, I passed a small local expo center (think coin show, knife show, model railroading show, aquarium show) and they had signs out front advertising "Ham Fest - all welcome!" For a brief moment I got excited. A half a second later I realized half the cars in the lot had giant antennas attached to them.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone
