  • Work for yourself they say, it will be fun they say.  60hrs and it’s only Thursday, lol.  Gotten to where if I only have 5-6 hrs of work a day it feels like a day off.
If I tell swmbo “I am taking a Sunday” she understands, no matter what day of the week it is.

@Ozzie_Isaac don't know about you, but this week has felt like it's been a week of Mondays.  Longest week ever.  It also doesn't help that I am on call this weekend.

When I was self-employed, a woman remarked, "I know all about being self-employed." I kind of raised an eyebrow. "Yes," she said, "You can work any 12 hour part of the day you want to."
And yes, she had it right.

Turned 60 in April, started taking Fridays off in July. My customers seem to be ok with that but after all the years they are more like friends.  Thinking about adding vacations now😁.  Quote high and work on the floor

Years ago my father’s sister passed away, and my father gave her eulogy.  The main theme was that life was too short for petty fights between relatives (all of her kids weren’t on speaking terms).

To this day, they’re not on speaking terms.  Some folks don’t get over things until it’s far too late.

Turning 50 definitely changed my perspective.  I have become much more aware of the finite nature of time, that we have choices, and that there is a lot of value in choosing wisely.  A lot of things just aren’t worth the energy.

Second/last shingles shot this afternoon.  The first one (in conjunction with either flu or COVID two months ago), gave me a pretty sore arm and was fairly loopy/foggy the whole next day (which never has happened from vaccinations before).
Supposed to have a minor snowstorm tomorrow, green chile stew ready to re-heat, so bring it on.

You know what?  I deserved that.

Jokes aside, I’ve seen sibling fights get ugly with both of my parents.  Lots of it inflamed when one of their parents (my grandparents) passed away, disputes over the estate, etc.  I had an aunt who didn’t come to our wedding because she had been fighting with one of my uncles for the past decade, and since he was coming to the wedding, she decided not to.  Life is way too short for this sh!t.

We have cut certain family out of our lives.  We wouldn’t avoid something because they went, and we can be cordial, but we wouldn’t sit and have a conversation.  I treat them like non-blood that I also do not like.

what am I doing? I am thanking God and my laziness for not getting into the front tree this past summer to trim branches and thin it out like it needed. Japanese Maple was so thick you could not see through it.  This week the leaves fell off and this morning I spotted this:

That wasp nest is about the size of an American football.  beautiful mottling and completely untouched.

The one on the fence summer of 2023 got eaten by raccoons one night.  Have not seen those trash bandits since. Wasps be mean.

I believe that death does bring out the worst in those of the family who are out for themselves.  However, I'm hoping all open conversations about how the deal is gonna go down will mitigate all that.  At least that's my objective; sharing the end game plans , updating my obituary every late December (how many more?) and all the legal paperwork filed in every orifice that I am aware of.
My one outstanding short coming is the menu for the post party.  But I do have notes for the banquet.
At some point you owe it to those who have to deal with the left-overs.
Easy to write right now-let's see how it goes when the hour glass of life is really low on sand.
To be continued-Vermont looks like a great last residence.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Heh, been there.  I tore down an out-of-control vine on the north side of my house, and suddenly saw a 3/4-size football yellowjacket nest; scrambled down the ladder and ran for the side door, did not get stung (it was midsummer, and I exposed the active nest but did not disturb it).
Early next morning (when it was still cool) I donned my motorcycle boots, pants, jacket, gloves and helmet, and walked out with a Raid can that featured a single-stream spray pattern.  Hit the hive dead-center, and mostly kept it spraying into the same hole until the hive started dissolving, then retreated back to the side door again (there was nothing following me this time, that Raid messes up their navigation).
The south side of my house keeps getting mud-dauber nests (notably behind the rear-view mirror of my Tacoma, three times now) but those are easily controlled with the scented traps from Home Depot (its odd that the attractant/poisons are different for yellowjackets vs. mud daubers).

I don't mind the mud daubers, ugly bastards, but seem to be more live and let live.  one summer I went into a shed  and saw a whole bunch of dauber tubes on the inside of the wooden door. just cool looking.

@Ikapigian I hope you can work magic on that.  Black Bear is a meat I find greasy and and not very tasty.  Maybe the sausage process will fix those issues, along with the texture which I also do not like.

If you make it not only edible but actually decent, that would be a massive feather in your cap.

Definitely higher in un saturated fat, added pork fat for saturated fat , adding a 5% wine for acid, did 2% salt , will see how it goes .. “ salt, fat , acid , heat” all comes together, I hope

I'm a fan of black bear burgers, it doesn't taste rancid med/rare although there's some risks. I won't serve it that way to others though. Wonder if the risk goes down with a sous vide cook
