If you rope a goat a few times, they will leave you alone. I had a real pain in the ass goat. He would hide in top of the feed shed and when you came around the corner leap off and head butt you. He also would come screaming around corners and nail you. I roped him a few times. He stopped coming anywhere near me.alaskanassasin said:I never understood that, goats don't seem to think much about a bowel movement @JohnInCarolina maybe they are using goat diapers? @alaskanassasin
if you aren’t dead set on in floor heat, radiant tube heaters are hard to beat. Our current shop at work is 20k sq ft and all heated with radiant tubes. We are strategic about how often and when doors are opened in the winter but get by very well with this setup. Also have a couple of the Big Ass Fans that make the shop tolerable in July/August. -
@Ozzie_Isaac somehow when I was first exposed to " a goat rope" I was informed that it was a unique skill set of a goat. Take a ten foot rope leash and get it so tightly wound that the range of motion was reduced to either stand or choke? What did I miss?Ozzie_Isaac said:

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Ah, a goat rope. I have been involved in a few of those over the years, but this was different. This was an actual roping of a goat. Once they know what you are doing the game is on. They can be tricky bastards. Some are just dumb, but a few make a good challenge.lousubcap said:

Sweet! What did you say, like 80kw? So do you have net metering where you get credit/sell back surplus electricity or batteries.

Yes, we can sell surplus back, but not for as much as we buy at!nolaegghead said:Eoin said:My solar panels.

I wore out a cheaper one making fries. I like 1/4" fries, started down the fry press path and thought, the madoline worked great for years and it is nice for making french onion soup.

We have an OXO mandoline too. I do use it on occasion when I want something sliced fairly thin and uniformly. Have to watch your fingers for sure but the grippy food holder thing that comes with it is always best to use when you can."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

I also cut the tip of my finger off, luckily not below the nail, so it was just the tip. I had never even heard the name mandolin other than the musical instrument until the nurse told me. I just called it a slicer.ColtsFan said:

Ha, I had the opposite experience! I went in with with some pad sliced off my thumb. When I told the nurse I did it with a mandolin she said, “I can’t believe you did that on your instrument.”RyanStl said:

We have the same oxo mandoline, great way to get lots of thin slices of jalapeño, cucumber, etc. Onion too, but I like cutting onions by hand. No accidents here yet. Yet.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I do also. I use the hand guard and tell people “if you think that you can get off one more slice, it will be off of you”Legume said:We have the same oxo mandoline, great way to get lots of thin slices of jalapeño, cucumber, etc. Onion too, but I like cutting onions by hand. All of these horror stories leave me shocked that you all have purchased mandolins that don't come with the little hand / finger guards.
I would think that would be a product liability nightmare for the manufacturer.

These companies making what are now-standard kitchen tools and whatnot have largely liability-proofed themselves at this point. You will find them coming with all kinds of warning labels that explain risk of serious injury under all kinds of conditions and circumstances. That's because every idiot on the planet has already done something stupid with them and sued.Langner91 said:All of these horror stories leave me shocked that you all have purchased mandolins that don't come with the little hand / finger guards.

I had a class in college from a prof who was an expert witness for this kind of stuff. Mechanical engineer who knew all about machines and failure. He used to tell us horror stories of people doing incredibly dumb things and then successfully suing manufacturers. Like the two high school kids who thought they could use a running lawnmower to trim the hedges, went to pick it up from the bottom with their fingers while it was running, and... well, you get the idea."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

About four years ago I posted this mandoline technique video, worth a repost. The first 1/4 of the video is Börner-specific, but the rest looks like it would apply to most mandolines.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKAhxkeNwVY
I have that Börner, it was ATK's "Editor's Choice" but I think that new Oxo stole the crown awhile back. I use mine once or twice a week, love it."Hallelujah, Noel, be it Heaven or Hell,

I have a Pampered Chef Mandalin. I hate it. You cannot slice without the food guide/holder thing, but it cannot hold anything larger than an egg. No free hand slicing. I have tried to rig it so the blade stays up and I can free hand, but results are less than ideal. This is the result of people hurting themselves, but it has essentially ruined the utility of the tool.JohnInCarolina said:
