Lighting the egg. A week ago (sunny 50 degrees out) a friend asked if I would smoke his Christmas brisket to be consumed at 2pm. No problem. Fast forward to tonight, it is a 7lb brisket so not sure when to toss it on, currently 20mph wind snowing and 20 degrees out. Merry Christmas!South of Columbus, Ohio.

Happy Christmas everyone!
High days and holy days are no excuse for over-looking core business; so here’s a quick run down of the Boxing Day matches and my absolute total guarantee of their results.
Leicester v Man Utd, really tough to call because Ole’s chaps are buoyant but unconvincing. The Foxes are similar but less so. Lunchtime kick-off with no fans. 1-1
Villa v Palace, I have no recollection of Palace’s last match so assume is was a drab encounter worth no remark. Villa are still plugging away as surprise top 6 contenders. 2-1 (Not so happy Christmas around these parts)
Fulham v Southampton, the home time have improved but Saints will fancy this as a chance to get back to winning ways. 0-2
Arsenal v Chelsea, really not going well for the Gunners. This will either be the first step on the road to redemption or a shellacking. Home defeat feels likely, 1-2.
Man City v Newcastle, no seasonal cheer for the Toon. 3-0.
Sheff Utd v Everton, it doesn’t relent for hopeless under-performing Blades. 0-2
Coventry v Stoke, short trip for the Potters and a win would see them lining up a promotion push. Avoiding defeat in 4 of the last 5 and back to winning ways last time out, they should have enough to get past the Cov’. 1-2.
Sunday 27th;
Leeds v Burnley, war of the roses as white hosts red. Trans-Pennine rivalry muted by the absence of fans but an interesting encounter. Flair meets pragmatism. I can’t see the Clarets keeping Bamford at bay, nor have enough potency to outscore dirty Leeds. 2-1
West Ham v Brighton, no repeat of last season’s freak away win here. 2-0
Liverpool v West Brom, the biggest risk in this one is complacency. Big Jurgy needs to keep the lads focussed and a dose of squad rotation beckons. A faltering but ultimatley comfortable home win. 3-0.
Wolves v Spurs, one point in the last 3 see’s the Special One back in role as the gloomy one. Wolves are hit and miss too. Each team struggling to score enough per match to grind out the result. 1-1.
I’m off to consume huge quantities of rich food and grown-up beverages. That’s what today’s all about, right?

the end result of my baby girl making pickled onions as gifts. Best Christmas gift ever (watching her in the kitchen wielding a knife like a pro.
