Just heard from my folks in Houston. They have not lost power, yet, getting a lot of rain, there is flooding in their area, but it has not got to them.

Guns carry more than one bullet for a reason.

When ever you see Jim Cantore you tell him to go the hell away!
  • Weather Channel is broadcasting less than a mile from @20stone house. That is not a good sign. When Jim Catore asks if he can broadcast from your porch, time to get out.

    Cantore is an ass!

Very interesting news observation from last night. I'm not a huge consumer of cable news but of course we were flipping around last night trying to see what was going on. CNN and FOX were nonstop hurricane until the political news broke. CNN went straight politics with the hurricane in a small window on the bottom right of the screen. FOX was running a political show (the 5) and they were 100% hurricane until almost midnight! Was so awkward watching Juan Williams and Jesse waters stumble all over themselves trying to cover a hurricane knowing they were avoiding reporting on the pardon and firing of Gorka. Then around midnight they do a 5 minute "breaking news" on the polical stuff and go straight back to 100% hurricane coverage. Meanwhile, CNN calls in every political analyst they had and pushed the hurricane aside as if it were minor news.

FOX quashed it and CNN shouted it from the mountain tops ignoring everything else.

This is why I hate cable news.

Just talked to my mom in San Antonio, her power went out about 30 minutes ago.  They're BBQing ribs, so I had to give them some tips because last time I had them there, they were undercooked (and thought they were overcooked).  Amateurs!

Tooth-pick for the win, every time.
Hope the power outage is not a protracted event.  No 'trons presents a few challenges to today's life-style.

I explained the tooth pick and told her to look up the "bend test".

She thinks it will be out for a while because said she thinks the wind is keeping the crews on the sidelines.

And don't use your leaf blower to blow your grass clippings and leaves into them year round.

I just saw these comments and had a good laugh. Spawn4 swung by and said everything is good so far, subject to the pending deluge.

We may even get home tomorrow night, knock on wood.

That being said, I really feel for those SW of Houston that really took it in the teeth.  Some of the farmers we know really have their hands full.

Yeah. My daughter now lives about 2 miles from there. I told her to evacuate and she did. What was I thinking?

Thanks for all of the good wishes. We live south of Houston just outside of Alvin.  Think we are prepared but you never know with one of these and the unpredictable path.   On high ground but worried about power and wind.  Plan to egg a Butt tomorrow if possible.
