My buddy called me back from Webster.  He lost power a few times, has power now, no water in apartment, some flooding in parking lot and street.  No way to get around.  He's calling up friends, few people he can't contact.  Had tornado alerts and thunder all night, has had a hard time, can't sleep.

That sucks, hope he's going to be ok and can rally a neighbor or someone to help.  I would imagine it's rapidly becoming a series of islands down there.
    Love you bro!

The roads around my mom's place drained nicely when the rains moved off. She has a good sized drainage tributary that drains into Braes Bayou behind her house.  That's staying over half full.
More rain is coming tonight. Another 15-20 inches.

Houston flooding is mostly fresh water, from rain.  Katrina it was seawater in NOLA.

  • Just texted Cazzy. He's fine. They have had to take shelter a few times from tornado warnings this morning but no high water or power loss.

Thoughts and Prayers are with everyone in the affected area.  This is bringing back memories when we evacuated for Camille when I was a kid in Long Beach MS.   I have family in Lake Charles and they are getting a lot of rain as well. Please eggsercise caution and stay safe.

As I told the guys...we're good.  Lots of scary tornado warnings that forced us to take shelter a few times.  No flooding in our area and haven't lost power (or internet speed).

The curve ball is the wife is scheduled for a C-section in Houston on Wednesday.  Currently, we wouldn't be able to make it that far into Houston without a boat.  I do have my brisket knife sanitized and my meat glue nearby in case I need to handle some sh!t.   B)

I'd recommend a 12" Victorinox cimeter over the Franklin Brisket knife for that purpose.   Good luck!

Does he have any water stored ? Fill the bathtub(s) and boil some for drinking now while there's still daylight and power.

He's not far from work. I don't know when I'll be getting down there, but I can check up on him when I do.

It's been a while, and it's not the usual orifice of business, but myself and a couple of others could probably get you through it on a conference call or something.

@foghorn Hermann is still operational from what I know, but it's the only trauma center in Houston that's still running.

Just a heads up that in the not-too-distant future there are likely going to be 500-year floods a lot more often than every 500 years.

    No worries Ron.

Brent, we rode out Katrina at Touro Hospital in Uptown.  All the hospitals should have evacuated.  Problem is, we didn't have much advance notice and moving all those people takes more resources than are available.  The logistics are messy.  And you know some people will die if they are moved, and you know there's a risk of them dying if they stay.  Tough situation.
Suzy said she rode out the storm not too far from you I think, at Mark and Karen's home on Atlantic, according to My Beautiful Wife.
