Some amazing footage on the Cable News Network today. One of their guys embedded with a citizen who drove an hour with a flat bottomed boat and dropped in at a highway on ramp. He rescued 15 people and the last one was a 90 year old man, his wife with advanced Alzheimer's and their caretaker daughter. Good work, young man (the guy with the boat). This guy was tireless. A badass in Carhartt overalls.
Austin Seth was the guy's name. I hope he gets the props that he deserves. Video attached

  • If anyone interested.  Channel 13 in Houston is doing live feed and KRIS in CC has been doing live feed.
Windy and wet in Austin on our hill.  No trees down but lots of leafs and small branches.
We had brunch with Kelley and Bruce and their house and property has survived unscathed.
My sister's townhouse in Houston is not that far from Buffalo Bayou and she has received no news yet.
I tried doing live camera feed but most of the Houston camera's are down, likewise, Txdot cameras are hit and miss.

Just watching live news feed. They're going to release reservoir water and flood homes. Guy said 2-3 feet of water in houses downstream for up to 2 months. Wow

No they're releasing from some reservoirs that are at capacity.   They release into Buffalo Bayou that runs into downtown.

  • They are saying rain thru Thursday here. We are 970 feet high not worried about flooding.  The creek and bottom of the hill at the "Y" flooded over the bridge....11 years and never seen that.

We're near the Y and haven't seen substantial runoff or accumulation until today, I think we've hit saturation now and that's gonna be a problem  if it keeps raining.  I've been surprised we haven't seen any real flooding around town yet.
    Love you bro!

It is and sadly we are closer to the beginning than the end.

Still looking forward to your visit. TX is a big place and as bad as things are down south, we are good over here in the hills.

I hope y'all stay safe down there. Makes all this talk about statues seem petty when human and animal lives are at stake. Wish you well.

Looking forward to it. The two couples we are joining are in NW Houston. We have been in touch through this disaster.
It is very sad as this moves forward. Their spirits are dropping, with the realization so far they have been lucky, but what is coming, will be the back breaker.
They will be coming here if/when they have to evacuate.

That's terrible.   I recognize some of those areas.  Have spent a lot of time in Houston working, and driving through it.

  • We owned a home near Meyerland plaza a few years ago - just heard from neighbors that it's completely (roof covered) underwater and they are sheltered at another neighbors 2nd story, waiting to be evacuated. This house will be completely torn down and have to be rebuilt I'm sure. I know they had flood insurance, so they are one of the fortunate few.

Our other house that was close to the Galleria has water in it, but not completely covered. They will be able to salvage it - but they may not have had flood insurance (not required for that area).

My inlaws are safe - brother & sis are safe in the Heights (though everyone is surrounded by water). Lots of friends have had to evacuate, some are completely flooded out and others are stuck on 2nd & 3rd stories. Hundreds of thousands of cars are going to be flooded out for sure.

The sheer size of this flooding is insane - all the way from Sienna Ranch, Katy, The Woodlands, Spring and down to Dickinson/Clear Lake. I think 90% of Houston is underwater. This is going to take years to recover from - surrounding areas of Houston will soon be taking on new residents for sure.

I remember many New Orleans residents never went back after being bused to Houston after Katrina. These folks can't catch a break. Prayers for those affected, the first responders, and the Good Samaritans
  • Sending positive thoughts to all eggers/non-eggers impacted by this disaster. More than thoughts, if anyone can recommend a strong and worthy local relief agency, pls post or DM.
    It's a 302 thing . . .
  • Just heard from my sister.  Her townhouse is still dry, according to her neighbor, but now they are releasing water from both reservoirs into Buffalo Bayou, which is already flooded.  Time will tell.
