Politics haven't made this place "suck" @JohnInCarolina & as to an exact pinpoint culprit I cannot help identify. I agree with the blanket statement made earlier by several folks and I've said the same several times over....in that if i don't like something i don't open it or don't read it. My earlier statement "politics & religion threads" was to convey neither one are going away. Would it upset me to see either of these types of negatively filled vibe threads diminish?  Not really. Internet stuff is serious business. And when folks have had too many adult beverages they sometimes say things they'll soon regret.

Wow, I'm gone for a day and y'all go and do this.  I know it's to each his own and I do read the OT threads.  I respect everyone here and their opinions and perspectives.  Just hasn't been a good Q-Crap ratio for a while.  Anyhow, was just observing.  Y'all will do as you please.  Hopefully light an egg.  Thanks.

@JohnInCarolina -  Upon review, I think that anus would be best cooked on the BGEtisserie as it is designed with the center cut already there.  May have to tighten up the sphincter to keep it from failing to rotate during the cook.
Perhaps  @SGH is working on such a rig in his shop.
The S&M version of the BGEtisserie has those sharp pointy things that will compensate if the centre cut cannot be stretched....

I've never started a political thread and I rarely post on them, so I have no problem with them going away.

But I must say I find them educational at times as I - as a centrist who votes about 70% republican - navigate the waters between my conservative coworkers and my liberal in-laws.

If someone votes 70% of the time with one side or the other can they still truly be called a centrist?

Well, it seems to me (I could be WAY wrong) that about 40% of the country mindlessly vote republican and about 40% mindlessly vote democrat - even though most of them will deny it.

There's probably a better one word name for someone who tries to understand the issues and vote thoughtfully... in a way in which they actually will vote for either party.  (Around here that person is considered left wing...)

I prefer the label "Independent"; I'm further right than Jeff Sessions on at least one issue, yet volunteered both cash, and time, to Sanders (and I don't agree with everything he believes, either).

Honestly I've been underwhelmed.  Given just how much material they have, they don't do a whole lot.

SNL has been hit or miss for 20 years.  Never been at the level when Belushi, Chase, Akroid, Radner, Curtain et al got it rolling.  Only occasional glimpses of great humor rather than staccato great humor.  Oh well.  They are material rich.  Let's hope it's funny.

Best SNL era was the 90s. Ferrell, Hartman, Farley, Myers, Carvey, Sandler, Hammond, Meadows.

I've always been very reluctant to join in with politics on the basis that no party is a good enough fit. After Brexit when everything got tossed up in the air and fell back down skew ways, it seemed to me that certain people were buying the political process. Also, as a resident of a constituency that always returns a big majority for one party, even though I always vote on principle, it is a bit of a waste of time. After Brexit I now belong to a party and see that as a means to have some influence as opposed to none. I have also contributed to the (successful) crowd funded court actions to stop our Government from using a referendum result as an excuse to do what they want by Royal Prerogative (executive action). I still regard myself as politically independent, but will contribute where and when I see fit and to whom best represents me at the time.

I was too young to fully appreciate the original snl cast...
But as i got older, i learned to see the genius in Aykroyd and Murray....

I would have to say Farley and Hartman made me laugh more than the rest of em combined....Phil as Bill Clinton in a McDonald's after being warned by a ss agent that he shouldnt tell Mrs. Clinton about the fast food stop: "Let's get one thing straight...there's gonna be a whole buncha things we won't tell Mrs. Clinton."

Funniest line ever in SNL history....

Oh and norm macdonald on fake news with deadpan delivery: Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson  announced that she's expecting...when asked about possible names, the couple said, if it's a girl theyll name her after her mother and call her Pamela...and if it's a boy, theyll name him after his father and call him...THAT LUCKY BASTARD...

Too bad snl isnt funny anymore....

Thanks much for your input, @Eoin; it's always interesting to see how the process works in different countries.
