If you put the wrong alloy or a replacement with a different surface hardness and wear characteristics than the original, it may fail very quickly.  Gears can be engineered much more than you think - outside the shape.  If this equipment is ancient, it may be easy to machine the part.
Looks and smells like case hardened 4140. 😉
That's my guess too, but if I can find a stock part I'm not losing as much time. Time is money.

Maybe you could find a machine shop?  Oh wait….🤯😂

the gear is easy, that funky broach for the inside is also a special order.  price was from a place that just makes gears to order. hopefully monday brings in some better leads. or i could buy a new machine for a mil.......

that and for some unknown reason i never acquired an old gear hobber, nola, you must have one by now.....

bumped the stop, two gears down, 3 days to get to them. the main gear box looks like the inside of an old pocket watch but way more complicated
I had a job refurbishing old equipment.  First time I pulled a horizontal mill apart that was originally built in the '40s, I wanted to pack it in and go find another career path.  I couldn't design those complicated gear profiles with a computer, and they barely had paper.  Helical sweeps on bevel gears, screw gears, etc.
It will take twice as long putting it back together without the work manual as it did coming apart. Imagine being the guy that assembled the first one

    Did you video the disassembly?
Have some pics but not 24 hours of video of yanking and pulling and swearing. Have had it apart a few times. It takes half a day to get the door panel off, alot off stuff is mounted on and thru the access panel.  The new machines are almost plug and play. It won't go back together like it came apart, the broken parts get wedged in everything
I pull on it, and I yank it, almost all day.  And man I curse when it doesn’t give it up.  Lord, you know I curse.
Is that how your placid boner works

I just pan seared some grouper and mahi mahi. The mahi mahi was excellent. The grouper ended up with a nasty fishy taste. Not sure what went wrong. Used garlic butter, mustard seed, and Cajun seasoning. Any ideas?
May have been not as fresh?  Or possibly just more fat than usual.  Doubt it’s anything you did.

Waiting at WallyWorld while they test my car battery.  Requirement to warranty it.  Guess their handheld is broken so waiting for big tester.  Yay.

Gave up and went home.  All three handheld testers are broken so will be 1.5hrs for their full machine test.

I have to run back into town later, so I will stop by then and see if it is done.  WallyWorld is not my happy place.

@GrateEggspectations - as expected given your sightings, a great home in an enviable neighbourhood (nod) with snow, as it should be.  Now to fire 'em up and deliver the goods as is your style.

Just crushed a bunch of take out sushi while watching shows with my beautiful wife. Date night is perfect, so far, we will see how it ends.
