    Cobra is expensive.
I thought it was your premium+company premium + 2.5% paperwork fee?

Sounds right. Just a shock I guess because they take it out of your check and you never see it.  Expensive wasn’t the best choice of words.

Cobra is whatever you and your company were paying plus 2%.  Looks more expensive because you’re covering whatever your company was paying in addition to your premium.

Are plans available thru the ACA cheaper/same/more than just COBRAing whatever your employer offered?

I haven't looked to deep yet, but for family of four was around $1500/month with $8k deductible.  Somewhere in that range.

You are really hedging your bets.  $18k + $8k + 30% .... Will I have bills significantly beyond that?

I bet employers push against nationalized healthcare for exactly this reason.  I would be gone tomorrow if not for this part.

We never had health insurance growing up family of 6. We would go to the doctors on a cash basis lol.

I have insurance and I still go on cash basis, until about December 15th.

I think most employers would be glad to be rid of the headaches of trying to find plans that satisfy them and their employees. A game which I think most folks say they fail at.

We won't move to a one payer system as long as we continue to allow lobbyists and corporations to bribe elected politicians.

Those lobbyists represent the big insurance carriers in the system. No way they will let a simplified one payer system under government control move in.  Never mind that around 30% of the country is under government subsidized care, Medicare, ACA, VA.

  • Well and something like 22 million people work in the health care industry.  Those lobbyists represent a lot of workers too.

I really don't know.  Do health care workers get good health insurance?

My point was more that they get a paycheck.  But I suspect most of them do have decent coverage.

So I moved about 30% of our belongings to the new house and we've slept there for one night.  I noticed my neighbor across the street has big green eggs.  Looks like an XL and a large.  I haven't moved my eggs over yet.  Still trying to figure out if I want them on the back deck or in the garage.

Nope. From my point of view it's the same or worse.

Or...  we educate our population about Facts vs Propaganda, castrating the multi-billion dollar smear campaigns funded by those corporations/lobbyists.  But I'm not holding my breath.

Valid point about the move right there-I am guilty.

The big fight is always against taking down the “for sale” sign in DC.  And if you think this is political then the DC doesn’t mean District Columbia.

Front to back, no. Left to right, maybe. Kid can park on the street. I'm 2.7 miles from our business. I keep a couple vehicles there. I want a faster Kubota RTV to drive back and forth.

@alaskanassasin any update on a speed increase?

Not going to happen. Polaris is coming out with a fully enclosed climate controlled cab utv. I might look into that, I can almost sell my 16’ rtv for what I paid for it so that’s something!
