the gear is easy, that funky broach for the inside is also a special order.  price was from a place that just makes gears to order. hopefully monday brings in some better leads. or i could buy a new machine for a mil.......

A grinder, a torch, and a welder will replace any broach.

bumped the stop, two gears down, 3 days to get to them. the main gear box looks like the inside of an old pocket watch but way more complicated

I had a job refurbishing old equipment.  First time I pulled a horizontal mill apart that was originally built in the '40s, I wanted to pack it in and go find another career path.  I couldn't design those complicated gear profiles with a computer, and they barely had paper.  Helical sweeps on bevel gears, screw gears, etc.

There are a two articles posted in the below thread on the OT board today worth a read:

Some great reading regarding Fox News and the law suit filed by Dominion voting machines- (Quite a picture of the big $$ at play) and

"MUNICH, Germany — Ukrainian President VOLODYMYR ZELENSKYY and Europe’s two most powerful leaders had similar messages at the Munich Security Conference: It’s time to focus more on making and sending weapons.

It will take twice as long putting it back together without the work manual as it did coming apart. Imagine being the guy that assembled the first one

Have some pics but not 24 hours of video of yanking and pulling and swearing. Have had it apart a few times. It takes half a day to get the door panel off, alot off stuff is mounted on and thru the access panel.  The new machines are almost plug and play. It won't go back together like it came apart, the broken parts get wedged in everything

I pull on it, and I yank it, almost all day.  And man I curse when it doesn’t give it up.  Lord, you know I curse.

I routinely had to draw WW2 era machine parts in 3D.  Machinists can't make them from 2D prints anymore. I remember one particularly tricky part. Some kind of helical 3D sweep/rolling taper around a conical surface. Bleh.

Can't that thing get CNC cut, then heat treated, then Wireburned out?  Looks like 1500 bucks all day long unless I'm missing something.

If you put the wrong alloy or a replacement with a different surface hardness and wear characteristics than the original, it may fail very quickly.  Gears can be engineered much more than you think - outside the shape.  If this equipment is ancient, it may be easy to machine the part.

Got my taxes done today, via H&R Faack!
Got a Questionnaire tonight, won't bore you with my answers except for the last one, "Why weren't you happy?" or something like that:

Good grief, folks!  Give us some reasonable pricing!!!
I've worked to earn three college degrees, countless "special" schools/certs, worked up to 70-hour weeks, and retired making $58/hr.
While the service I got today was great, they/you made $410/10 minutes = $2,460/hr!!
I won't be back (unless, mebbe, I submit a resumé...)

Well. We got possession today. Carpet cleaning. Still wet. Was able to swap their washer and dryer with our speed queens. They're coming with us. Glad the house is 5 minutes away.

I just pan seared some grouper and mahi mahi. The mahi mahi was excellent. The grouper ended up with a nasty fishy taste. Not sure what went wrong. Used garlic butter, mustard seed, and Cajun seasoning. Any ideas?
