Shopping, paying bills, and pressure washing 42 years of grime off of the driveway and walks. Wouldn’t think that it would make me tired and 40 years ago it wouldn’t have.

Well at least you've found your special purpose.

As I got on the freeway this morning, I could see the entire ridge line of the foothills on fire. Beautiful but damned scary sight. The air quality all around the bay area is unhealthy. Not a great time for Egging, and I hope that isn't considered heresy.

Listening to someone’s kid get a violin lesson in the background of a conference call.  It’s kind of comical because headset microphones make the violin sound very out of tune.

Yep, my FiL was woken by SJFD at 4AM and told to evacuate.  He’s in the foothills on the east side.

And NC State is now back to online only as well.

Duke has taken a number of additional precautions, but I can't help but feel we're headed towards the same.

Are most of your students around campus and just limiting dorms to freshmen/sophomores or is the split complete online vs in person/hybrid?

I don’t remember what they limited dorms to here, but everything is online here except labs (unless you can make them virtual), tests, and some of the senior design activities.  We are hybrid with a heavy lean on the online parts.

The only students on campus now are freshman and sophomores, and some graduate students, for the most part.

That being said, even for freshman and sophomores, many of their classes are online.  I don't know what the exact percentages are but I'd guess only about 25% of their classes are being held in person.

But I don't think the classes are the problem.  The problem is the socializing the kids are doing when they're not in class. Actually fraternities are proving to be a real issue at a lot of the schools that are finding they have outbreaks.  And then it's just a matter of going back to online to try and prevent things from getting really bad.

Valid point. The social aspect will be the downfall. Hard to contain 10,000+ bodies on campus before a pandemic, can’t imagine trying to do it now without major problems

@JohnInCarolina some of the same issues here with socializing, last weekend was a disaster in terms of social distancing but school also hadn’t started.  Problem here is how many students live off campus. This time around I don’t think the students will leave town if they forced more online versus in the spring except for those that have to.  We are going to see a spike here but hope in about 3 weeks everything is back to whatever is considered normal these days.  University has also put good effort into accommodating staff/faculty with health concerns.

Also - short apology for the shot at this yesterday with you, stressful start here with some folks screaming “the sky is falling” when in reality it isn’t and have no empathy for anything but their own interests.  Just want folks to respect each other and put forth some respectful effort for all parties involved, as I’m sure you see this where you are as well.
