I think it is  New Orleans West Bank / Gretna La Quinta Inn. May be a dive but it is close and in my budget. I figure this is like an Eggfest, only need the room to sleep and shower.

    That place should be fine.

We are at the Roosevelt. It's 1.5 miles from there on foot. I guess there is a pedestrian bridge from the quarter to there? 6 miles by car. can't wait.

I'll send down a care package ahead of time with some post oak chunks and other goodies in there. Is there a good grocery store nearby where we can get fun stuff to cook and nosh on during the day saturday?

Should I send my AR and stone down too? I can roll platesetter if I need to.

You could walk if you take the ferry, but there's no bridge to walk across (of course, you can take your car on the ferry as well).

There is a Rouse's downtown - probably 4 or 5 blocks from the Roosevelt - that is quite good (and like all good grocery stores has a good wine/beer/liquor selection)
Thanks- I guess the ferry is what was showing up on google maps. COuldn't tell. Thanks for the tip on the store.

@AustinEgghead, I am reserved at the Mariott Arts District. There is also one right by the W-A that CT and the gang are going to wreck.

I'm just trying to figure out why Hotch thinks he needs to shower.

Cause I tend to spill stuff later in the evening. Mostly on me. Sometimes on others. It makes no difference to me.

The Cen-Tex Smoker   -  There's a pedestrian ferry that goes from the end of Canal St to a landing in Algiers point that's about 150 yards from the event.   There's no "legal" walking bridge, there is, however, and illegal service walk under the Crescent City Connection bridge.  Wear non-reflective clothing if you try that route.  The Ferry hours are here http://www.neworleansonline.com/tools/transportation/gettingaround/ferry.html

Cabs are around $18 between the quarter and my hood.   I can give rides if when I'm sober.

Check out Central Grocery and the French Market for real local stores.  I'll probably make a trip to Restaurant Despot and/or Costco.  There's a nice Rousses in the warehouse district near the dome.

I'll send you a shipping address if you want to mail anything here in advance.

Whoops, sorry should have read further before I responded.

No more cars on the Ferry.  Scooters, bikes and pedestrians only.

@Austin_egghead - I sent you a PM with my number

I'd just like to emphasize that we're 100% inclusive, progressive people.  All people and non-poisonous animal life, regardless of their (fill in the blank) are welcome.  There ain't gonna be no hatin', just lovin' n food.  Big.  Green.  Egg.  Food.

And we're gonna have much more than food.  Music.  Interesting people.   Good times.

And at night, we'll dance like no-one's watching.  (I dance like Elaine from Seinfeld).

OK, I told Travis the date via text (sounds like he might make it!), for everyone else, and to bump this, it's Sept 20th, goes for 3 days but the Sat morning is when we get down to bidness prepping meat and firing up eggs.  We'll have stuff started the night before and we'll have constant food.

Sat afternoon until evening, the evolution of a party will happen.  People will be coming and going, the city is a big world to explore.  I expect it will go on until the neighbors call the police, and we're right next to a bar with live music, so that will be late.

I'm playing with the sound system right now, I will have football on throughout the day one at least one screen.  Will set up a projector with a food porn slideshow if I can get it together enough.

@Hotch - Not much, pull off the overnighters from Sat.  Eat breakfast.  Drink a few bloodys. Probably will be early.  I"ll put together an itinerary in the next few days.

For those who are recent forum participants, even though @travisstrick and the  "How I do it" post is on the way to record views, he has moved on to the more conventional brisket cook methods  and routinely wins brisket cook comps.  FYI- I'm sure that is the driver behind his above cook happening.  And yes it is a tall order for a squid to say something good about a ground-pounder but sometimes you just have to set the record straight and allow the C2H5OH to flow!  Looking for low earth orbit tonight :)>-

@hotch thanks for asking. I think I have enough. I think there are a bunch in the back but I have a friend that runs a festival who has access to a couple shipping containers full of that stuff if I need more.
