I held out for as long as I could. In a moment of severe weakness and lack of character I ordered it last night. I am ashamed. I have a problem.

I'm bracing for the next wave of knife steel debates and fancy knife purchases...it really makes no sense to sharpen just any 'ol knife with a sharpener like this. Y'all need to honor that tormek with a new knife.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

At the very least I need a new knife without any sentiment attached so I can practice using it before my babies go near it.Legume said:I'm bracing for the next wave of knife steel debates and fancy knife purchases...it really makes no sense to sharpen just any 'ol knife with a sharpener like this. Great, now I can't get the image of @Botch sitting in a bubble bath with a Tormek running on that little shelf. The Electrical Engineer in me just hopes he has a GFCI installed correctly in the bathroom!Ozzie_Isaac said:

Bringing this one back to life. I have a few cheap filet knives - any idea what angle I should settle on for them?
-
I usually cut filet knives at 14-17 degrees.______________________________________________I love lamp..

And thanks @nolaegghead , I was able to get my boning knife fixed and razor sharp setting at 20 … FIW , not all knife angles listed are total they may be per side like mine , thanks again @nolaeggheadnolaegghead said:I usually cut filet knives at 14-17 degrees.Visalia, Ca @lkapigian -
The Tormek has a major flaw. I now understand how important blade thickness is. I have my regular knives very sharp with proper blade geometry and they do not perform as well as my thinner blades. I am starting to appreciate all the other aspects of good knives now and not blaming performance on my poor sharpening skills.

Pro tip: match the angle using a sharpie. Don't change the angle using the Tormek unless you want to spend a lot of time grinding the blade.

Tormek has released a "limited Edition" T-8, $1,000, for their 50th Anniversary. It's in Vader-esque All Black. I'm sure it'll be a worldwide Pantie-dropper.

If only they had made the lower water tray like vaders lower mask, then added a cover like his helmet.. I would have been on like Flynn.Botch said:Tormek has released a "limited Edition" T-8, $1,000, for their 50th Anniversary. It's in Vader-esque All Black. Inside the bowl there are tie fighters that fly around. Your job is to use your "laser canon" and blast them. There are satisfying sound effects upon successful intercepts.JohnInCarolina said:
