Me either. I saw the ad on facebook marketplace and had to look it up. I got it for half the retail price and bought it on impulse. I'm supposed to pick it up Monday.

I've been trying to come up with specific use cases outside of frying and hollandaise both of which should be way easier.

I guess overnight simmers (using my gas stove makes me nervous and it's hard to maintain a simmer as the fluid level drops.)

In other news, looks like commodity brisket prices are way down. HEB today. prime 1 (their better grade) was $3.99lb and prime was $2.96. I have not seen prime brisket with a 2 in front of it in years.

Have you decided on a system yet or just doing your initial research?  I almost pulled the trigger when building our last house but the ROI was going to be about the time we were looking to sell the house so we decided to hold off.

But the system is still there when you sell and adds value to the property. 

My ROI looks like being 7 years / 14% capital cost per year.

We had planned to build extra horse shades and put solar panels on them, however, the extra cost for building code requirements were extremely high.  I could build a decent barn for the extra cost.

We decided to go on the roof (patio roof, so not above living space).  Based on buybacks, we are only putting in enough for 85% of our annual usage.  If I lived a mile in either east I would put in 120% and be happy as a clam.  Instead my utility credits $0.037 per kilowatt in "avoided cost" for the month and no roll-over to next month.  Sunshine capital of the US and one of the worst solar policies for consumers.

When you mentioned horses, I thought KY too, but then you said sunshine capital, so it's not here. I didn't know Az was that bad.

Some of our utility companies have really good policies.  One even pays out checks on 12/31 for excess.  I have friends who actually get $300-$400 in December from the utility after not paying them in anything but clean renewable energy all year.

My utility sucks.  Our utility company is based on location only, no competing.

the utilities here think new england is an island 1000 miles off the coast in the atlantic.  just looked at my massachusetts bill, 23 cents per kilowatt hr plus all the other 7 extra charges that double the cost.  maine jumped 83 percent per kwh in january alone

I just paid my electric bill today.  $116 or $0.123 per kWhr.

Are you familiar with what has been going on in Arizona regarding customers installing solar power and the lobbying efforts of monopoly electric utilities (SRP in particular) over the last few years?

You really believe it is the "free market" that allows one to add solar panels to a house connected to the grid?

Nope. I think there is a lot of solar scamming going on too though.  Our power bill averages less than a Hundo a month so if I’m going to start complaining it will be about the tens thousands of dollars I pay in various insurances I never use and the $125 it
cost to get 3/4 tank of fuel in my truck.

For you, solar doesn't make sense.  In summer my electric bill can be just shy of $400 and my heating bill is similar in winter time thanks to record high propane.

A good friend of mine had electric bills of around $1200 during summer months.  He lives in a good utility company area, and he dropped his utility bill to almost $0 (averaged for the year).  He installed an almost 23 kw system.  Mine is only 9.6 kw.

@HeavyG is correct, utility companies have been trying their best to stop solar by making it financially unviable.

My last two monthly electric bills were between $37 and $38.  I guess, for once, I got lucky.
