Bezo’s Boys just delivered a liter bottle of Maggi, the German variety. Thankfully the the inner air cushion packaging was nice and thick because the cardboard looked like Samsonites gorilla had a personal axe to grind with it.
@Gulfcoastguy how do you use the Maggi? Never heard of it before.

Maggi seasoning is analogous to soy, the main difference being it's hydrolyzed wheat protein vs soy.  Loaded with umami flavor.  Very similar to msg also adds a nice color.

He got a hold of my last package of vintage glassware.

If you are interested in searching for replacements, I have high praise for a company I have dealt with for many decades. replacements.com. They have everything, customer service is extraordinary and all purchases are refundable.  Good luck!

Never tried it yet. Ron mentioned it on one of his posted recipes and I’m a sucker for new ingredients. I think that I will be using it in similar circumstances to Worchestshire or soy sauce.
They have smaller bottles on Amazoid but I looked at the per ounce price and which had free shipping.

use it like kitchen bouquet or gravy master on soy type dishes, its pretty intense in flavor so use a bit sparingly. i used it in shepards pie made with lamb a while back, never knew it existed til a few months ago

Btw my bottle of Maggi is all in German. Does it need to be refrigerated after opening?

If it does, it would say "nach dem Öffnen im Kühlschrank aufbewahren" or some such.

My mom kept it in the cupboard, but a lot changes over 40 years.

Yep it also has 4 recipes on the bottle… provided you speak German and their version of metric. I did figure out that their amount for bolognese is 5 ml or about a teaspoon.

I think that’s what the Germans used to bomb Pearl Harbor.

It's made worldwide and it seems each country has it's own variations so they won't taste exactly the same.
The Mexican version is usually available at Walmart for <$2 so avoid Amazon if you want to try it.

My retirement homework assignment for tomorrow morning: research "german metric".
    I might get to it.

See if you can also find out if bratbest exists.  It should be the anti-bratwurst.

This is just the bottle i had in my fridge, usually always have one on hand. Always just thought it was soy sauce with a little more flavor. Tried it for the first time at a pho place years ago (prob why i thought it was soy).I actually bought this one at a polish deli 🤷

No need to refrigerate.  I had a small bottle of this, forget which version, and thought it tasted pretty much like liquid aminos.  It's a nice change from soy.

Liquid Aminos is soy based....you can look at it as concentrated soy sauce without all the salt.

Ohio is where good pizza goes to die. If it’s not chopped topping on raw dough cut into squares they aren’t interested. That said the farm account could buy a months lease at the gas station pizza parlor.
