The forum is great and lots of knowledge and fun is available to be had. I’ve learned a lot and have been entertained quite a bit.
The generosity I’ve received has come in time, kindness and friendship. I’m an introvert, so the interwebs are a perfect place for me to live.
I had never spoken offline to anyone on this site other than @SGH. That guy posts his personal number on the internet for the world to see! And he’ll answer his phone and any bbq questions you may have. Too kind.
On top of that, deciding to attend this event at Dan Nicholas park in NC in April is where it was truly shown. First off to @Jeremiah who patiently answered my questions, took the time to explain to me who everyone was. I’ll never forget your time and patience. @JohnInCarolina greeted me like we had been long time friends and put me to ease the moment I arrived. Likewise, @DyalSC, @TarHeelMatt, @YukonRon, @northGAcock, @DoubleEgger, @NolaEgghead, @Piney all welcomed me and were more than generous and accommodating.
That led to second year return and the likes of @DMW, @Henapple, @KillItAndGrillIt, @CaliKing, @Sea2Ski, and too many more to name.
This is an amazing place and community we have here. The shenanigans and characters make it what it is.
Meeting and spending time with Egghead/BBQ people is where the most fun is to be had.

Need to acknowledge @gmac and his home-made cleaver offer from last year. I was fortunate enough to win the random draw, thus the significance of #38 in my sig line.

There are so many overly generous eggheads friends that I met through the forum both online and in person. I'm blessed to have these folks in my life. Since no one likes sappy without substance, I will give a particular shout out to @northGAcock for hauling a nest from Columbia, SC to Brookhaven, GA and meeting me at Lowes in the pissing rain to give me a nest for my medium. Another shady parking lot deal... It was the first time we had met in person. I also want to give the ultimate thanks to @bgebrent and his lovely bride Nichole. They are simply great people and generous doesn't even begin to describe them.
If given an opportunity, I implore you to make the effort to attend one of the get togethers that this group has. I promise you'll end up with some lifelong friends and great memories.

Very generous. A few of my favorites.
1 - One guy was going to come all the way from the NC coast to the middle of NC to whip up on me.
2 - Some Hippy messaged me stating he's in my area and I better have dinner on the table when he comes by my house and wanted a wok demonstration. Never met the guy before, just instant messaging via here. Thankfully he wasn't a serial killer, that I know of.
3 - For a few years now, I have to do community service at a park in Salisbury, NC due to improper acts on county grounds until the next year. RIP Billy the Goat.

Also deserving mention is @thetrim who totally surprised me with some local rubs and a ball-cap.

Some time ago, a forum member with whom I had no personal relationship to speak of spotted a comment I had made expressing a desire for an out-of-production aftermarket kamado product (not cheap!). They subsequently PM’d me with an offer to ship it my way free of charge (at great cost, I’m sure, given the distance between our locations and the weight of the item). While I wanted to publicly recognize this generous act, they did not wish to be identified and, wanting to respect their wishes, they will therefore remain anonymous.
I still get a thrill every time I use it, rendered all the more more special due to the charity of a then-stranger and the backstory of this random act of kindness.
Lots of kind souls and extraordinarily generous folks on this forum.
If you see this, you know who you are and thanks again. -
I’ve received, I’ve given. All material things. What ive gained is friendships with people I wish I could see more than a couple times a year.
It all statted with a trip to an eggfest to get my second egg. I’d been a forum member for a few months. @piney was my first
then a trip to a baseball tailgate 5 hrs from home to meet a hippy and his merry band of minstrels because I’d given a bit to his flood relief efforts. It snowballed from there. -
The list is long but distinguished.
@nolaegghead is generous to a fault, serving as a resource to my son in New Orleans and lending us his boat for 3 days - after I had met him twice - so we could take it dozens of miles through swamps and bays to a barrier island and out in the Gulf.
@YukonRon for his generosity with baseball souvenirs even though I have not met him in person.
@20stone, @caliking, and @The Cen-Tex Smoker for their “generosity” in allowing me to contribute and participate in pig farming and butchering adventures. And their mentorship of both of my children.
@Mickey for creating the Salado Eggfest that allowed me to meet many eggheads.
There are many more.

I would add, if you can get to an eggfest, do it.
If you can make it to Butt Blast, Wing Ding, or Brisket Camp, do so with haste!
Youll meet some great folks if you want to. -
I love this place and the knowledge that comes with it. Some of the greatest humans I've never met can be found right here. I look forward to the chance to meet up with yall one day. Until then you'll stay neatly tucked away on this tablet in my pocket.

@thetrim- I am definitely not worthy given all the brisketeers here. But I truly appreciate the sentiment behind the hat. "Better to be lucky than good any day". That said, when Navy wins in Dec I will PM you a pic.
