Oh man. Forgot you were in Bastrop. Stay safe man. Keep that minimax on high groundHoustonEgger said:Small river in our back yard due to the lot sloping down. I setup a diversion to route the water to the back part of the lot and that seemed to work really well. Tons of debris across the yard and it's still raining here in Bastrop.

My SIL and her husband are in NW Houston. They have been fortunate thus far, relatively speaking. They are trapped where they are, surrounded by flooded roadways. They have power, for now."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Same w my mom. She's in SW Houston - Alief. She has water about half way up her yard from the street. Much better than other parts of town. Houston's had it really bad in the past, and they made great strides in controlling flood waters, but there's just so much rain coming days that they can't put it anywhere.=======================================

Looking more like a 500 year flood. They've had a few 100 year floods since Alison in 2001.

Just spoke with my SIL, they have 4 tanks of LP for their grill, so they will have that should the electricity go down.
They are doing what is necessary for an evacuation, should it be required. Putting as much as they can on elevated surfaces, (things up high in their home rather than leave them on the floor), and packing valuables to bring with them.
She was in NOLA when Katrina hit, and barely escaped with her life, due to the anarchy during and after the storm.
She saw armed thugs going door to door, looting and robbing people, heading her way.
She left when she heard a shotgun blast a couple doors down."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

We just got some big bands. I think we're supposed to get 8 inches (just like @henapple's mom). People are a little nervous because of the state of the pump system.

Yep. The first rain band hit NOLA right as we were leaving our hotel for the airport. Our direct flight to San Antonio is supposedly flying. I'm thinking we'll need to take a circuitous route...

Just heard from the farm- They are trapped on the farm due to flooded roads but safe. She said the pigs are loving it (hers and ours). They love the mud. They don't expect to be able to get out until at least Tuesday but they have plenty of food and wine and don't expect to lose power where they are. Happy to hear they are all safe
She said "the pigs are loving it, the horses are tolerating it, and Kochie (the very well endowed donkey) is hiding"Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
If the pigs are happy, they'll taste better!

No worries Ron.
Brent, we rode out Katrina at Touro Hospital in Uptown. All the hospitals should have evacuated. Problem is, we didn't have much advance notice and moving all those people takes more resources than are available. The logistics are messy. And you know some people will die if they are moved, and you know there's a risk of them dying if they stay. Tough situation.

Apparently not from you.
Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN -
Yep. I've just had that confirmed through official channels. No word yet from Hermann. There's only a handful of places in the region that can handle some of the surgical patients that come from hospitals like that. And they tend to stay at or near full capacity. The definition of "full" may become very fluid. All the patients in Corpus Christi and Victoria have already been evacuated to San Antonio, but they were mostly medical and could go to any hospital - so they did - most staying within their own systems. But as a result, the San Antonio hospitals are pretty full. Our Regional Medical Operations Center has been operating all weekend and will facilitate the transfers. I'm not there, but I've heard FEMA is involved and we're using a broader scope than ever before so I think Dallas,Tyler, Austin, and Temple would be other options within the state. There are some options in surrounding states as well, but that's a long transport for the really sick patients.bgebrent said:Ben Taub Hospital is being evacuated. Talk about a nightmare.
