power outage recovery.  4 hours is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but being a computer infrastructure nerd my system is more ... complex.  Last outage was about 400 days back although my startup notes date to Jan 2022. Biggest problem is that my UPS has lowered to 10 minutes uptime which is plenty for a clean shutdown unless you think it's 20 minutes. I gave the power company 10 minutes to reroute the grids and then headed down to watch everything shut off. damn.

one last disk to check for bad blocks in NAS server 1 and I'm clean.

    Devastated!

When I slid my metal peel under the pizza, the stone slid back just a bit and touched the rear of the oven; when I returned to kill the gas/light, I saw this.  Disappointing.   :|

Two weeks short of cresting the hump and the January transfer window beckons.  Teams in danger at this stage struggle to pull clear and a gap is emerging.  Averaging a point per game keeps a team up, more than 1.5 puts them in Europe.  So far it’s Man city who are the muddle factor, by being very off-colour - most others are settling out about where they ought to be.

Arsenal v Everton, strong recent form for the Gunners makes this look somewhere between routine and perfunctory.  3-0

Liverpool v Fulham, as good as the Cottagers have been, this is away to a purring Reds machine.  No way Arne will permit a repeat of the Forest travesty. Workmanlike 2-0 with few thrills.

Newcastle v Leicester, great time for the Foxes to head north.  Toon are in an identity crisis and the strain will be too much  for Eddie to retain his command, soon.  2-2 but a strong side bet on the away win.

Wolves v Ipswich, big game at the foot of the table.  Both need the win and could achieve it - but in the grand scheme of things it will matter little as both look adrift already.   1-1 and no use to either.

Forest v Villa, possibly game of the day. The Villans are the better team but are stretched by Euro commitments. Forest are regressing to the mean though still a handful. 2-1

    Sunday

Brighton v Palace, draw.  Always is.  pick your own pair of matching numbers for the score.  I’ll go 1-1

Man City v Man Utd, neither team in form or clear of mind.  Should be a home win all day long, could be any goal tally or result.  If they could both lose, they would.  3-3

Chelsea v Brentford, west London derby but poles apart in talent. Shaping up as a classic season for the Chels and silverware awaits.  2-0

Southampton v Spurs, apex Spursy Spurs this season. Scored 3 and lost last week - need I say more? 2-5

    Monday

Bournemouth v West Ham, the Hammers’ calamity flirting could be behind them but the Cherries aren’t in the business of being tummy tickled. 2-1.

Just for clarity, cresting the hump is not code for anything mucky, thank you.

Thank you for that as always. Unfortunately for both of us, I think both the Seagulls and the Citehzens will come out victorious.
@CPFC1905, I'm happy for both of us that we were both wrong.

Yeah.  I made a couple doughballs a couple months ago, and four more a week ago.  Coming out of my 11-year break, need to not go overboard this time (and, after my fourth pizza this week, I'm done again for a couple months).  Finally found some whole-milk, low moisture cheese, and then buffalo mozzarella, in the last couple months and got tempted.

I am sure it was a hell of a ride, I liked the photo you posted of one of your pies.  I try to keep pizza making to once a week, and tonight is the night.

From the other side I remember hearing that you never finish your last project. And that was the way it was. I didn’t feel too guilty as my boss was leaving a month after I was scheduled to.

Booking flights to Austin in February.  I'm set to give a talk down at UT.  Probably won't have much time to sample the local brisket (sorry Frank!) but I was very happy to see that Delta now has several direct flights each day from RDU to Austin.  There didn't used to be any of those.

We just got Delta out here in Midland which is nice.  I heard that they are trying to make Austin a hub.

I keep making the mistake of assuming these folks want a career and they just want a paycheck.  Work, drive, willingness to improve is hard to find.  I cut my teeth managing engineers and with all their problems, they all wanted to do their best and get better.  Admins making $50K-$60k a year don't have the same aspirations, even though the role would easily grow into a $100K+ opportunity.

Wait til a long time employee/book keeper tries to walk out the door with a quarter mil. That's when it gets interesting. Liens on her property, passport in my safe, took me a month to track it all down, cost her her husband's pension fund. Big party, accountants, lawyers, police, the irs.....a lot of bluffing involved, the law works against you.  She still wanted her job. Be careful
