CHEETO makes Nixon look like a saint.  No surprises there.

A few observations about where we as a country are today:
"The (latest) case against Trump is clear and seems pretty airtight (especially since he keeps publicly confessing). The reaction to the case is more perplexing. Dahlia Lithwick in SlateWhat Will Come From This Indictment. "We’ve officially reached peak Schrödinger’s coup. Democracy is either alive or dead inside that box, and everyone is too afraid to look inside and say which it is. And this in turn puts us all in the unenviable position of having to reckon with two conflicting truths: Yes, the legal walls are closing in. And as they do so, for some the power of these legal walls is crumbling before our eyes. It’s blinding: The more criminal trouble Trump finds himself in, the more his political capital rises. The law may in fact be powerless in the face of that simple truth. I used to fret that politics would always, always outrun the law; that a Trump lie, or threat, or boast would make it twice around the world while the justice system was still just putting its socks on. But increasingly, I think we’re not even running the same course, or playing on the same field, or moving toward the same ends. The more the 'rule of law' triumphs, the stronger the forces that hate the rule of law actually become."

+ The only thing that seems constant in this crazy world of ours is Trump's base of support. Take Washington for example. Seattle TimesDoes nothing matter? Trump support in WA hasn’t budged in 7 years. "The theory says we live in an age where actions have no consequences, where truth is little different than lies. It further finds that no wind blowing through politics, no matter how strong, can pierce the partisan haze." "

I can imagine how Trump is probably confused about how he's getting punished, when the pattern in our nation's history has been pretty much no president ever has before. The usual response to obvious crime and misbehavior, if not outright treason, has been for the next guy to say "Now is a time for healing, not division." This self-serving explanation has had to inspire confidence in every office holder, if not the populace. In fact, it's the rare member of our countries elite who ever pays a price for incompetence or law breaking, judging from the massive payoffs many a worthless CEO gets or the continued employment of most major media personalities.

@HeavyG - very on brand for Trump.

That so many of our fellow citizens still support the spray-tanned con man does not bode well for us as a country.

Federal Judge Aileen M. Cannon, overseeing former President Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents, issued an order yesterday instructing any lawyer who wants to take part in the case to start obtaining a security clearance by Tuesday. Neither of the lawyers who appeared with Trump at his arraignment has active security clearances. The order suggests a coming legal battle over how to handle the classified documents without causing unnecessary damage to national security. Alan Feuer, William K. Rashbaum, and Maggie Haberman report for the New York Times

It will be interesting when Trump’s lawyers can’t get security clearances because of their own shady backgrounds.

He doesn't need lawyers, he's already laid out his strategy - it's the presidential records act.

I thought his strategy is to pardon himself when he wins  next year.

Now I read he is demanding that all potential candidates agree to pardon him if they win the nomination.

    The latest on CHEETO:

"Former President Trump has claimed the “secret” documents he referred to on tape were only newspaper clippings. A recording was made during Trump’s conversation with a writer and publisher in July 2021. According to the transcript, Trump declares that “as president, I could have declassified it,” adding, “Now I can’t, you know, but this is still a secret.” Maggie Haberman, Alan Feuer, and Jonathan Swan report for the New York Times

Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart yesterday ordered defense lawyers for former President Trump not to release evidence in the classified documents case to the media or the public, according to a court filing. Reinhart also put strict conditions on Trump’s access to the materials. Douglas Gillison and Kanishka Singh report for Reuters

The FBI resisted investigating former President Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 attack for over a year. A wariness about seeming partisan, institutional caution, and disagreements over the necessary evidential threshold needed to investigate the actions of Trump and those around him all contributed to the slow pace. Carol D. Leonnig and Aaron C. Davis report for the Washington Post.

Former President Trump said he had been too “busy” to hand over the boxes containing classified materials to the National Archives and Records Administration. Rebecca Falconer reports for Axios. "

Just a continuation of CHEETO's strategy honed early on in his business dealings and bankruptcy proceedings.
The leopard never changes its spots and CHEETO makes Nixon look like a saint!  So there's that.
