@Paolo - Great cook and at 3+kg that is a manly chix on this side of the pond.
    Enjoy the celebration and banquet.

I just noticed it's tagged as "pollastrone", which means capon (castrated rooster?). That's why it's so big

    So this got me interested.
Toad in the hole, here in Blighty, is sausages (proper pork bangers) in Yorkshire pudding.  Served with mashed spud, gravy and various greenery if you're that way inclined.
I did the Google and US toad in the hole is it says fried egg in a slice of bread.  Well, my friends  - that is in fact an egg banjo.
And, in these images - that looks like 'hunt the dog', which is either bangers in mash (yummy), or bangers in beans (yak).

See - you're interested now too, aren't you?
Other girls may try to take me away

There’s fish in the stargazy pie. The fish heads stick up out of the pie, as though they are admiring the night sky. A tad disconcerting, really. Lol.

@Paolo that's a lovely looking meal. I'd roll out of my chair afterwards,  and take a nap right there on grass.

No meat in my favourite mincemeat tarts?
Edit: unforgettable experience when moonlighting at a small bakery in Bournemouth eons ago... mincemeat was stored in a barrel in an outdoor shed, had to fight swarm of wasps to get to it  :o

I would not be the least bit surprised if your take on bangers and mash did not have anything that qualifies as what Americans would consider meat.

The Toad in the hole came from Mrs. Beeton guide to home cooking. we use 1.5 to 2 times the batter amount and use a veggie sausage replacement, but other than than pretty much the same as done written 110 years ago.

    The onions were ... okay.

simple stupid - peel, stick on rings, put on 350 for 40min.
put house of Q "Sugar and Spice" on them for last 20 min
while cooked, not really carmalized and still had an oniony taste in the middle

I think what @johnmitchell did looks (and likely tasted) a lot better, wish I'd done that before I had retired the egg, but may try it in the oven. I've noted that recipe.

2 slabs of babybacks on, boneless thighs with MeatChurch fajita seasoning and butter above. Beginnings of fried rice happening. Green bean salad marinating in the fridge

the thighs will be pulled for tacos tomorrow post church. The rest will be devoured this evening

Basically, i turns out that having a bbq just isn't a fit for our life.  I have realized 5 myths of bbq (to be read with tongue firmly in cheek :) )
    1. BBQ vegetables are just as good as BBQ meat
    2. A BBQ will bring you the guests and visitors that you have never had without a BBQ
    3. it's not burnt, it's just a little charred
    4. your neighbours all enjoy the nostalgic smell of charcoal
    5. cooking outside means less work for the regular cook
So in January, I stopped. Nobody  really noticed, a bit at first but now we are well into summer weather and no one ever mentions or suggests egging, it has just faded into the past. Today my wife suggested something grilled for supper, and then said "Ricky's All Day Grill". Can't compete with that I guess.

I also got some direct/indirect messaging at work that when people ask how my weekend was, I don't need to always talk about what I did on that egg thing. So I stopped.

At the end of the day I thought that this was something that my family was enjoying and work colleagues found interesting, but realized that I was the only one out back with any interest in the egg and it was getting lonely with just me and my fire. I'm a pretty solitary guy, so when I start noticing that it's lonely, it's REALLY lonely - hah!

So the egg retired, and life goes on.
