Some stepper motors that the company was throwing out.  The possibilities are endless….🤪. Z axis?  Who knows!
Connect one to the lower vent, one to the daisywheel and you could have the finest temperature controller in the world!  Not finest, like coolest, but finest like most resolution.

Ouch. You’re scaring me. Hopefully it was fast, at least!

Demolition has started on the two bathrooms, so I can’t stop now. Guess I could still bail on the window replacements. 🤔 Maybe we’ll need to start a support group headed by @samiam2. He’s kind of the OG when it comes to such expenditures. 😂

I collect junk and work as a lowly lab technician at the bench!!!!!
I miss working in the machine shop and being general maintenance for a University.  We were responsible for all the dump runs too.  Was constantly amazed at the stuff a University trashes.

@GrateEggspectations - I think @Ozzie_Isaac is the OG with his outdoor cooking area build. I am an OldGuy but I don't think you meant that, although I did do the whole house windows and doors replacement before the cast iron replacement fiasco..

No contest with Ozzie. His results were perceptible, and impressive at that! I think it’s just you and I that like to pour money into projects with little-to-no aesthetic return. 🙃

“Original Gangster”. It’s very much a compliment - especially in musical circles. But “Old Guy” sure made me laugh.

Did you ever come across any of those discarded, salacious university prof diaries they’re always talking about?
  • @GrateEggspectations  - It took three months to get the heat pump - ordered in August installed in November.

Haha, nope.  Just some old x-ray equipment with some cobalt-60 balls.  They were cool and made marbles in the dark fun.

I did walk in on a professor holding a knife to a technicians throat.  All I heard was, "If you f'ing come in here again, I will slit your f'ing throat".  Professor had the technician backed up to a rack of electronics equipment and lifted up onto his tiptoes.

I quietly backed out of the room and wandered down to the head of the machine shops office and told him, "Either Dale is going to start behaving, or we are going to have a dead body to clean up after.". The shop foreman said we should wait about 30min before we go check.

Luckily, Dale started to behave.  I will say though, the far away look in his eyes never did go completely away after that.

If we had done the pool, we wouldn’t be doing this stuff. 😂 We actually flooded while finalizing pool plans and were forced into reno’ing the whole basement instead. I suppose if we hadn’t reno’d the basement, we could have had an indoor pool.

just pulling strings - are these the kind of items that gets your wallet dancing around in your pocket?   Haha.   Sorry man, couldn’t resist.

Lol, you have no idea.  I love G-Shocks and Benchmades.  I love those green scales, finish on that blade, and the gold thumb stud and pocket clip on that knife.

I recall a story from China about all.the things they used used condoms for.  It was a pretty disturbing story.  Almost as bad as the sewer oil used in street food.

I saw that sewer oil story.  I also know several people who got quite ill eating in China when they visited, and have vowed never to return.  Hard pass for me.

Good luck, we did our master bathroom and bedroom this past summer.  Took way longer than promised and more $$ than quoted.  Was wonderful for me since my wife has the patience of a gnat.

My next door neighbors have been doing an entire interior home remodel.   They literally moved out in October, put all their furniture in storage and when I spoke with them yesterday they are set to move back in next week.   3 full months of almost daily work going on there.

Sounds pricey and a PITA to me but it does look nice in there.

Some years ago, I had my kitchen remodeled. I'd made new cabinets for the remodel. Even with those on hand, it took longer than I'd expected, cost more -- and was totally worth it. I gained about 10 pounds quickly. Of course buying my Big Green Egg at around the same time didn't help that, don't know which to blame the weight on.

Got a neighbour doing the same - an entire interior reno of a huge mid-century bungalow down to the studs. Had to AirBnB for months and months and when I last spoke to him this fall, he was already way, way over budget. His kitchen, which is complete, is stunning.

He has told me many times that he doesn’t know if his marriage will survive the remainder of the reno. 🫤

I had a very close friend decide to Reno instead of buying on his entire home. Initial budget of 165K. 31 months later he moved in. 486k total lol.

I said welcome to your forever home!

Gonna have to get a new vac sealer.  The current one will seal, or it will vacuum, but not both.

If you lived close, I could make you a sweet deal on a sparingly used Weston 2300 sealer.
