Jamon Serrano is one of those foods that I think I could live off of and nothing else for the rest of my life.  I imagine it's even a million times better over there.

And now we are in our room and Valencia is beating Barcelona in a football match.  This place is going wild!!  My neighbor thinks that lighting off a ton of fireworks when they score is a great idea.
    time to drink up!!

@JohnInCarolina we had a drive of about 200 miles to get to the next town on the list which was València the alleged birthplace of Paella. There I had a lesson on how to make paella valencia traditional.
They really like their paella there.
    A lot.

First we went to the market to buy the ingredients:

And how to tell good saffron from great saffron

Then we went back and divided up the ingredients and went from this:

    To this:

It was a very very informative but fun class from which I learned more than I think I ever would have known. Not to mention, we just had a ton of fun cooking it in Valencia!
Man that looks outstanding. They do the class in English?

Loved València every time we pulled into port in the 70's. Great town, people, and food. You are going to send a package of the saffron and rice home, right?
Wonderful finish shot, drooling and hungry.

Visited Spain (Torrejõn) in the early 90's, but never got to hit the local markets.  I think I just added a "to-do" to my Retirement list...

Thinking about heading to Spain then going to Rome during Christmas this year.

You are really making me want to return and live there. You are doing outstanding in the delivery of this journey through Spain.

Thank you for rekindling some very fond memories.

Would it have been better if she had been standing in a boat, on a lake, casting a lure?

I would take that on.... after about 5 years of practice.
I do want to practice and be able to reproduce it because it was awesome. I took really good notes as we went along so I could remember what we did.
    I think.
I just have to do it a few times to see what I forgot.....

Outstanding.  We didn't make it to Valencia, but it looks like we'll need to do so the next time we go.

For those of you thinking of going in the future, our favorite place was Tossa de Mar - a little over an hour northeast of Barcelona.  Best beach I've ever seen - the "sand" is tiny smooth rocks that feel like you're getting a foot massage as you walk.  As a result water visibility is 100 feet right off the beach because any time the "sand" is stirred up it falls immediately back to the bottom - even when the giant ferry brings people right to the beach.  Beachfront restaurants serving paella and other great food and drink.  A Belgian beer bar a couple of blocks from the beach.  A 12th century walled city at the south end of the beach. I'm looking forward to retirement one day so that we can spend the month or more there.

I’ve been following this thread and drooling in the shadows...

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"
