Jamon Serrano is one of those foods that I think I could live off of and nothing else for the rest of my life. I imagine it's even a million times better over there.

And now we are in our room and Valencia is beating Barcelona in a football match. This place is going wild!! My neighbor thinks that lighting off a ton of fireworks when they score is a great idea.
time to drink up!!

Loved València every time we pulled into port in the 70's. Great town, people, and food. You are going to send a package of the saffron and rice home, right?
Wonderful finish shot, drooling and hungry.

Visited Spain (Torrejõn) in the early 90's, but never got to hit the local markets. I think I just added a "to-do" to my Retirement list...___________

With that paella class under your belt, now maybe you can give @SciAggie a run for his money.

Thinking about heading to Spain then going to Rome during Christmas this year.
You are really making me want to return and live there. You are doing outstanding in the delivery of this journey through Spain.
Thank you for rekindling some very fond memories."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

I do want to practice and be able to reproduce it because it was awesome. I took really good notes as we went along so I could remember what we did.

Today we drove from Valencia to Alicante. We drove right through the citrus groves Valencia is known for. The groves and estates were manicured like the vineyards in Napa and Tuscany. We tried to get a tour, but couldn’t find one which was a bummer, so we drove on...
Arriving in Alicante, it was awesome. 70F and clear. We went to the beach and we first ended up at the marina.
We walked around it and and saw St Barbara Castle. There it is on the hill.
We decided to go to the top. We had to walk along the beach, which was um....... awesome. It is really cool when you wife is spotting topless women and saying “10 o’clock”, “11 o’clock -2 deep”.... Sorry, no pics.
Went to the top:
And got got a bite to eat because we were hungry
It was a great afternoon.--------------------------------------------------

Now we just walked along the promenade “Explanada de España” While it was fantastic to walk along the palm tree lined walkway and watch life unfold around us as kids played “football” and people laughed as they sat and talked, I would not want to walk here after having a few too many. It was messing with me if I was walking at just the right angle.
Then we walked down down this little alley loaded with mushrooms:
And stopped and got some tapas, along with free WiFi:
The view to my 10 o’clock:
Headed “home” to open a bottle or Rioja, open the floor to ceiling windows and relax.
Headed out for more food in a bit. I think we might need to walk about 20-30 yards.--------------------------------------------------

Outstanding. We didn't make it to Valencia, but it looks like we'll need to do so the next time we go.
For those of you thinking of going in the future, our favorite place was Tossa de Mar - a little over an hour northeast of Barcelona. Best beach I've ever seen - the "sand" is tiny smooth rocks that feel like you're getting a foot massage as you walk. As a result water visibility is 100 feet right off the beach because any time the "sand" is stirred up it falls immediately back to the bottom - even when the giant ferry brings people right to the beach. Beachfront restaurants serving paella and other great food and drink. A Belgian beer bar a couple of blocks from the beach. A 12th century walled city at the south end of the beach. I'm looking forward to retirement one day so that we can spend the month or more there.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

I just have to do it a few times to see what I forgot.....Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"
YukonRon -
Last night, as promised we went home, opened the windows and had a glass of wine. Really it was a bottle, but who is keeping track?
Once dark, we out for tapas, because that is what everyone does. It is nice to see people get together with friends and/or family to eat, laugh and joke with seemingly no care for time.
Of course olives and bread came first, and I got a beer:
Then what else would I order but sausages in cider. The waiter could not speak a word of English, and while I can get by with the little Spanish I do know, I could not tell what he was trying to describe what the “cider” was. I could tell it had vinegar in it, but it was weak. Maybe 20% vinegar and mostly oil/fat? I have no idea.
The wife got potatoes with vegetables and onion.
After hanging till 11:20, we left the locals party on and we went to bed.--------------------------------------------------
