I have had 1 knife, 1 pipe, and 3 guns pulled on me.  Luckily, not all at the same time.
Did the perps all run away once they saw you were packing a hand cannon?
Nope, never drew on them.  I was taught if you draw it is because you fear for your life and you shoot.  The guns were stupid road rage people.  One got arrested, one got a long visit by the police.  The pipe and knife situations ended in fist fights.  Nobody died.

I never want to have to draw.  If I do that, my entire life will change, whether I am right or wrong.  Nothing good will come from that.
Wow you’re just like Steven Seagull or something!
Haha!  Yeah, no.  Just a stupid young male learning how to de-escalate.  It has been a long long time since those days.  I like to think I have learned.  I never said I won either, just nobody died.

Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

Please, just an American kid.  I am sure my experience isn't all the uncommon.  Well, it might not be these days.  Nowadays Karen's call the po-po all the time.

Fights aren’t any fun for anyone, but they do happen, and when everyone walks away still alive it’s much better than the alternative.

Except for that one man I shot in Reno, just to watch him die.

If there ever was a civil war, the dems would get annihilated by the rednecks with guns.  The resulting redneck Riviera, after a few decades, would look like the aftermath of a college tailgate, except all the streetlights would be shot out.

I'm sure everyone that buys a gun for "home protection" or  every day carry "to be safe" thinks that they are going to be responsible gun owners, store it safely, practice regularly to maintain at least minimal proficiency, etc., etc., etc.
Literally every day of every week of the year somewhere in the US there is at least one incident of a accidental negligent discharge of a weapon. Sometimes the worst thing that happens is someone gets to patch a couple holes in the drywall. Sometimes they have to patch a hole in their leg.
Too often tho that errant bullet does real harm such as in this case from a couple days ago:
What I find maddening is that in most cases where a negligent discharge severely injures or kills a family member or friend no criminal charges are brought against the gun owner. We usually hear the phrase "the family has suffered enough". Well bullsh!t. Incidents like these should be an automatic felony which, at a minimum, results in those owners forfeiting their rights to ever own a gun of any kind again.

  • People are skerd.  It's been quite a year for violence and fear mongering.  Around you I can see lots of first timers, but people like Scottie are buying and he already has a huge arsenal.   The collective demand is what drives up prices.
It’s funny but we don’t have any guns in the house.  Well, there’s a Bug-A-Salt, but ...

So I don’t own any firearms and don’t have any plans to buy any in the near future.  Same for my parents, and just about everyone in the neighborhood here.

We’re not scared, obviously, so we’re all just morons I guess.  Morons with PhDs.
I don’t know if you live in Durham but if I did there is no way I wouldn’t sleep without  a firearm.
I live in the middle of nowhere and have a revolver in the night stand, 12 gauge at front door, can’t remember what’s at the back door but it’s handy, .22 in the shop...
If I had kids it would be different, for guys like @sgh and I guns aren’t a big deal, they are like crescent wrenches, handy but not one size fits all.

I do indeed live in Durham, I don’t own a firearm, and I somehow sleep like a baby.  It may have something to do with understanding statistics, but that’s just an educated guess.
That is funny. I’ve never had a flat tire while driving but I still carry a spare. YMMV

  • I used to work in Durham one day a week, I saw public fornication, had people try to steal my stuff, almost ran off the road by someone in a suv wrong way on one way running from police, I stood in the way of a fleeing bank robber, saw a robber jumping out of apartment window, you and I have privately talked about a murder that took place at another apartment I worked at, they caught a peeping tom at another.
All that to say when I lived in NC I got a CCW and carried one day a week, it never occurred to me to look at statistics!

There was an interesting contrast in the two CCW classes I took.
In North Carolina we spent many hours talking about the laws and what would happen if you actually pulled your CCW on someone in many different scenarios. For example if you walk up on two guys fighting and help or for home defense.
In Ohio it was the NRA basic handgun safety that was about it.

Agree on NC ccw training. It is an enormous responsibility. Mine was so comprehensive on the legal issues, I repeated it to make sure I understood.

I'm assuming you also never go outside when it's raining for fear of getting struck by lightning.  Best to just be prepared, right?

The point I am making is about calculated risk.  Flat tires are pretty common.  We carry spares in all of our vehicles.

They say a dirty filter cleans the air more than a brand new filter.  However, you might have gone past that point.

It actually does.  The problem is the static pressure difference increases and drops flow.

That's just a power reduction for diesels and modern gas engines with an ECU and mass flow sensor, but older gasoline engines start running rich with low power.
