    Selecting Dele Alli looks like a good choice now.

    That's why they don't pay me the big bucks to be England manager.

    You might do just as well.  Whoever you selected ahead of him may have had a hat trick.   :)

    Nice win by England to put them in the last four.

    Now let’s go Croatia!

    Croatia vs Belgium final is FIFA's nightmare.  France and England would bring a lot more viewers.

    Thankfully Croatia for the win.  The one match I didn't want to go to pk's....
    Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

    Latest odds now the SF are fixed;
    France 2/1
    England 11/4  (remember when they were 16/1 ?????)
    Belgium 14/5
    Croatia 6/1

    As good as the French are,  Belgium have shown more grit.  French sports teams have complex history and are rarely predictable.   Gut says Belgium. With big Rom', Hazard and De Bruyne on form, there will be goals.    But - all it needs is for Pogba, Mbappe and Griezman to play well and the Belgian back line will be over-whelmed.

    A Belgium England final will be more or less;
    "Most of the best players in the PL" v  "Some of the best players in the PL"

    Frankly I am just thrilled England are in the Last 4.

    I’d take Belgium’s Premier League players over England’s. But as you say, at this point it is going to come down to grit, stamina, and some lick.

    I can’t argue with the odds as posted. They make sense. But on some level it’s a tossup.

    In what way?  And do you include the Russian models placed for the cut-away shots?   I mistrust anyone proporting to be a football fan unless they look like a bulldog liking a thistle.
    Got to love the Ing-gerrrr-land fans.  Sunburn, tattoos, hard earned beerguts and vitriol.

    Excellent.  Notice I didn't mention the English fans.  You describe them perfectly!!!

    Oh yes, we know how to party.

    Street furniture is the corner-stone of any celebration, here.  Confusing an emergency service vehicle with a trampoline is a less regularly seen derivation.  In fact I think the last time we went for that option was the spontaneous street parties which greeted the introduction of the Community Charge.   Ok, history calls it the Poll Tax riots, but hey you say either I say either.  (That doesn't work written down, does it?)

    I notice the the link is from The Sun,  a most august journalistic body.  And what I mean by that is 'the final stubborn floater in the toilet pan of tabloid journalism'.   In an act of recognition that it is no longer 1974, the paper recently stopped having bare-chested ladies on its 3rd page.  What heavy-weight political analysis is not enhanced by the semi-clothered image of Sarah, 23 from Romford?

    I feel the quality of the media outlet is best summarised by the caption; Apparently the car narrowly avoided a family who were cross the road

    This is a direct lift from the article.   I know that the English language has many quirks but I find that at least reading a sentence back after its written gives a fighting chance of spotting errors.   A blurred image of a stationary car, some people crossing the road near it - on a pedestrian crossing,  in Folkestone of all places (sleepy fishing
    village/meaningless coastal town - your choice).

    Perhaps I have high expectations but in terms of tumult and rebellion I was hoping for a little more than that.  At least a bin kicked over (street furniture = English expression of euphoria) or someone pushing a shopping trolley around the streets after the shop has closed.

    Luckily I have my trusty bulwarks of societal disintegration;
    the English stop queuing in an orderly fashion & strangers stop apologising for being bumped in to by another stranger.
    No sign of them yet.
    But it hasn't rained for three weeks,  is that an omen?

    Its coming home, its coming home.

    @CPFC1905 (event organiser) covering his tracks well there. Who knows how The Sun managed to get a tip off about the UK Egghead's quarter final after party. @thetoast did a pretty good impression of Gareth Southgate, myself and @Stormbringer egging (!) on the crowd to commit random acts of vandalism.

    A good time was had by all.

    Too close to call tonight, the final a round too soon.  Still feeling Belgium have the edge. If all goes to plan tomorrow night, then hopefully tonight's game goes the full 120 plus pens.
