    As opposed to some.

“After witnessing first hand the horror & devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey,my heart goes out even more so to the great people of Texas!” the president tweeted Wednesday morning.

Except he didn't see any horror or devastation. He didn't meet with any of the victims. His speech was staged in front of no one except officials. He also didn't go to Houston, he landed in Corpus Christi and flew on to Austin before leaving the state.

I just wish we could dispense with this notion that Presidents need to visit disaster areas to show that they care.  It's unnecessary and occasionally does more harm than good.
Agreed. PR move for whatever pres. Won't change though, unfortunately.

So...I hear the owner of the Arkema chemical plant in Houston is saying that there is nothing that can be done to prevent the plant from exploding and catching fire in the next couple of days.

Yikes!! When it rains it pours, so to speak.

Organic peroxides are very unstable.  I think they just decided it's too dangerous to get near enough to the plant to try to fix the refrigeration/power issue so they're writing it off rather than risk lives.

They just need to change the official name to Environmental Pollution Agency.

It seems, depending on the base peroxide variety manufactured in this facility, an expansive evacuation in the area surrounding that facility, will need to be enforced. The toxic gasses that could be released, may be in concentrations that may be fatal to those exposed, not to mention combustionable or even powerfully explosive.
I wager the community in which this facility resides, will have a few more restrictions regarding the operations and safety requirements when this disaster is resolved.
Peroxide bombs were the focus, for the last several years, in the airline industry security networks.

i think i heard that the vicinity has been evacuated.

Seems like the worst of it is past us. Sort of. 300K-400K homes flooded. Relief efforts continue. A colleague of mine canoed with firemen and walked to the hospital in the pounding rain to operate on a teenager. Can't say I would have done the same, so I do have new respect for the guy.

Anyways, will be joining OBR tomorrow to try and help out.

As a point of reference here, the entire state of New Jersey is 8700 square miles.  And that's not even accounting for Chris Christie.

I usually don't go for fat shaming but I ALWAYS make an exception for Christie.

I wish. I'm on the left coast during a freaking heat wave. Not too bad close to the coast. Went to the high desert today it was 108 and I was in long sleeve dress shirt like an idiot.
