    This kinda got to me.

Yeah back after Katrina I found an occupied coffin in the storm drain near Denny's in Biloxi MS. A long and involved story goes with that but this isn't the time.
Still only the 2nd worst thing you can find at a Denny's
The thing that didn't seem insane at the time was that I flagged down a police car from Indiana to report it.

The worst thing is all of the people from the midwest who are going to be on the internet saying that: they deserved it for voting Republican(Houston is a democrat city), they deserve it for living in a hurricane zone, and it's been 3 months already so stop whining.
Small minded people are going to have childish opinions.  Not much you can do about it but support education programs in the country and set a good example.

We also heard all the religious nuts say god is punishing New Orleans for sin, yada yada.

You can't do anything about that either.

What you can do something about is call your congressional representatives and encourage them to vote in support of the funds to help rebuild the storm damaged areas.

For example, last time this happened - Hurricane Sandy, 23 of 24 Texas GOP Representatives voted against funding a storm recovery bill.  It passed anyway.

Now you're going to read some really disingenuous reasons from some of these congressmen because they were ashamed to vote against aid.  20 of them are still serving.

Some professor University of Tampa got fired today for saying Texas deserved it for voting Repulican. Speaking of Denny's...wonder where a University of Tampa professor would find work after losing that plum job?
    Berkley
No.  I know you were making a "liberals!" joke here but Berkeley is a top institution.  The University of Tampa is... on the other end.
    Hey, you spelled Berkeley right...
And it's a "top institution" @ by golly.

He deserves to be fired.   That's just plain ignorant.

If all the forum members here were university professors (I know, a herculean leap), I would estimate over half would lose their university jerbs in the first year.

Surely there are more credible people to get to talk about disaster preparedness/response than Blanco and Brown.

Holding on to academic positions can be a real challenge.  They don't grant tenure to just anyone, and with good reason.

No a rare genetic blood lipid disorder actually, my last LDL count was 4, that is not actually a good thing. My doctor went to school at Berkeley and so she sent my blood sample there 13 years ago for closer examination..

I've had tenure.  It's overrated when you consider the Dean's tax.

Dean's tax is a **** when you know how to bring in some bank bitches.  The more you perform, the more you give.  Gave that up a while ago after teaching for many years.  Before I met Nichole.

The U of Tampa prof was a visiting assistant professor, untenured.  What he tweeted was idiotic, no doubt.

I dont think people should be fired for dumb tweets, but there's nothing stopping a private University from doing just that when it comes to a visiting assistant prof.

Anyway that job at Denny's is probably looking pretty good right now.
