My thanks and appreciation for all who are on the front lines doing their best to maintain law and order in a society that continues to trend away from such norms.
Condolences to all impacted by this shooting.

Unfortunately my responsibility was to stay in my area and handle business there.

I am so thankful to work in a valley with courageous men and women. This was ended as quickly as it possibly could have been. My heart aches for those that lost their lives.
I'm at work, and they block X ... what happened?? I can't see the post.

So, to loop you in - there was a full set of mid-week PL games which variously gave hope, contorted the title race and made me quite literally furious to the extent of such apoplexy that I could s drop the lid of my Large on multiple body parts,  ideally other peoples’.  Anyhoo,  we’re off again, the Gunners are **** of the north while Citeh have opted to go all Spursy, permitting Liverpool and Aston Villa in to 2nd and 3rd respectively. Heady times.

Palace v Liverpool,  oh - what’s the point?  Why do I do it? Scavenging a point against Hammers wasn’t great but it was better.  The mighty Eagles performance against Bournemouth was akin to pulling finger nails out, such was the pain.  Something’s got to give as we could end up relying on other teams come the Spring - and that never goes well.  Or Roy has to walk. 0-2 - probably a lot worse.

Brighton v Burnley,  don’t even care about the fetid filthy wretched Seagulls anymore.  3-0, and that’s primarily so Burnley don’t accrue any points.

Man Utd v Bournemouth,  despite their cruise past Palace this week the Cherries aren’t good enough to repeat the trick at Utd who are 4 wins from 5 now.  2-1

Sheff Utd v Brentford, the trigger was pulled at the Blades and a new / old manager is at the helm for them.  Will the dead cat bounce - maybe, so let’s go 1-1.

Wollves v Forest, four defats on the spin for Forest and that can mean only one thing,  their manager gets sacked and gets appointed at Palace - because that’s how football works.  Old Gold will stroll this. 2-0

Villa v Arsenal, 3rd host 1st and that was not on the agenda when we started this farrago back in August.  But well done Micky Art’ and one time Gunners boss Unai Emery now at Villa.  A tippy-top match that should be tight and fun.  Just can’t call it, so 1-1 (yep, ducked it)

    Sunday

Everton v Chelsea,  two wins this week for the Toffees as the points sanction has stung them in to life and their inexorable rise to about 10th overall, come May is now well on track.  Chelsea remain consistently inconsistent.  could go either way, but form says home win 2-1.

Fulham v West Ham,  Goal glut mid-week for Fulham who scored five without reply, adding 33% to their tally to that point. Won’t happen again, for sure. The Hammers unbeaten in 4 will be a different gravy to hapless Forest. 1-2.

Luton v Man City, despite Citeh’s recent loss of focus ‘slumping’ to 4th only a massive shellacking is on the cards here. Haaland will fancy a double nat trick, by half time.  0-4.

Spurs v Newcastle, welcome back Spursy Spurs - one point from the last 15 available, the slide is on and it feels just like putting your favourite shoes back on.  Toon still not really nailing on their Top 4 credentials. 1-2.

In the Everton v Chelsea match, regression to the mean will trump form and Chelsea will pull it out - despite the fact that they are missing the American.  And I'm still not sold on Villa.  Every team from 5th to 10th looks at the top 4 and thinks that Villa is the one they can catch and squeeze into the Champions League.

True, it’s is very quiet out that way. My boss lives in Dripping Springs. He rents an Air BnB for our team meetings a couple of times a year.

@Ragingirishman2 - I spent a night in Dripping Springs in October as a jump off point to hit Salt Lick (After enjoying Eaker's Q in Fredericksburg) before rolling into Austin via Valentina's in Buda.  The front end of a great few days.  Will do it again in 2024.

Just getting over shingles of the scalp. Good times!
Glad you got thru it, that's scary; if the shingles sores hit the eye, you can lose that eye.
When I got it in ~1991 they were just around my torso, but they got about 80% around; it can be fatal if it fully encircles you, I've been told.
Just added a Shingrix shot to my calendar next week; wanted to get it last week with my COVID/flu shots but Walgreens would only give me two shots at a time (Bah! the military gave me nearly a dozen in one day when I joined, and maybe about seven in a day before I was sent overseas).

It does confuse me that shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox; you can only get chickenpox once, but you can get shingles multiple times.

  • I got my Shingrex shots about a year before Covid . My younger sister had shingles, my niece had it, and believe it or not my Dad’s had it twice. He had the worse case and says that he has some nerve damage on one leg. It went all of the way across my niece’s back. I can learn from the misfortune of others.

I got it around my eye, but was lucky it never made it in. I only had a few square inches of it and man it hurt. Couldn't imagine a large area of it. I was only 39 years old too

Thanks. Was lucky myself. I am younger than you were when you had it, @poster. Could feel it in behind my eye in that there was pain when I blinked, but like you, it never made it in. Funny thing was that I saw a Doctor Sunday when it was first emerging, but shingles was discounted because I “wasn’t in enough pain”. Had it been correctly diagnosed then, I could have been given antivirals that would have likely proven effective.

Shingle is on the come-back trail over here, or maybe LL Cool J was right and I just wasn't paying attention?
I had my first ever jab for it a few weeks ago and have the follow up next week.  Not quite sure why I 'qualify' but it's a nice ride out in the car and a chat to a friendly lady while she does the business.  However, it did leave me with a sore arm for about 10 days.  Nothing like actually having a bout I'm sure, but why do some jabs hurt more than others?

Don't answer that, to be honest I got bored typing it.

Glad you're on the mend @GrateEggspectations

Thanks, friend. You’ve done well to seek inoculation. Had I met the age threshold for the shot here, I would have gotten one as well. I know many people who have suffered from it for months and months - with one having experienced symptoms over a year. It’s such a strange ailment.

@CPFC1905, I'm sorry for your sporting loss.  I know that it was not unexpected, but the manner in which it happened was particularly cruel.

Pepper stout beef day. A rare mid 50s day here. The wind, however, is really really strong. A steady 18mph gusting to 37.  I lit the egg and went inside for 3 minutes. Inferno. Couldn't get it to settle under 300. Shut it down. Now attempting round 2. Vent away from the wind.

Yep.  I bring my MiniMax to the beach every year, and it gets pretty windy there.  Positioning the vent towards or away from the wind can really change the dynamic.  It’s like having God be your Q fan.

Vent settings to maintain 350. Wind was gusting to 45 at times. The vent on the new base is not sealed well. Slides with ease and rattles a little. Not tight at all.

I use a toothpick as a wedge in my lower vent if I need to tighten it up.  Put it in the tracks to pinch it close.
