  • Nice!  I have probably been there 25+ times.  I know that picture well.  One of our favorite hotels.  Enjoy.  If you see Rene at the big swim up bar or anywhere else for that fact, tell him Juanito and Kim say hello.

You should have hooked your dog to your BGE on the deck next time.

We shot some wood ducks Sunday morning that ended up in the skillet for duck fajitas. Bonus, I shot a greenhead that morning too which is a unicorn in our area. We’ve hunted for 7 years hoping to get lucky and kill one locally, it finally happened on the river (public land) Sunday. We don’t get many “big ducks” in our area. This one will be off to the taxidermist.

Double bonus, I picked up at 6lb boston butt for $5 and some change at the local Winn Dixie that afternoon.

Either that pistol is huge, or your rifle is small.

The pistol is full size (5”) but the Ruger rifle is very compact. 16.25 inches.

Yep.  Snapped on me mid-workout.  And it’s no longer under warranty.  And a replacement is out of stock.  And it’s going to be a PITA to replace anyway.

So… I’ve got that going for me.

CFP Championship game-Had some news feeds to catch up on (after a monthly meeting CF).  Dropped in around half way thru while catching up and dang.  Got current with the recordings and glad I did not spend any time with the game.  Certified A$$ whipping right there.

Wood ducks and teal are the best tasting ducks IMO.

Being from MN, it's wild to me that mallards are rare in your part of the US. We shoot a ton of them each season. Regardless, that's a beautiful drake - it'll look great on the wall!

Wood ducks are all we shoot around here, I am not complaining as they are one of the most beautiful ducks out there and they taste excellent. We shoot a few studs each year. I'm no expert but Mallards and other big ducks just don't normally push this far south anymore (in numbers) or the divers like redheads skirt around us to the gulf. Sure we get some big ducks here and there but the numbers we do get seem to only make it to North Alabama unless we have an event like we did for Christmas. Most of the big ducks stay further west or east (we are on the very edge of each flyway). Talking to guys that used to duck hunt, they say we used to get mallards, gadwall, and others more frequently but not anymore. I wish we had more mallards like y'all! Thanks for the comments!

Thanks @DuckDogDr for the offer! I don't mind driving but I am supposed to drop this one off Saturday with the guy I have been using. Does your Taxidermist have a website out of curiosity?
