I would've assumed the same. Guess I got lucky with the guys who looked at my place; they told me my electric bill would go up slightly for 20 years or so, then drop dramatically (I will drop dramatically before then).alaskanassasin said:
Im probably way out of my element here but I assume you would have to power your house off of stable power source such as a battery and not one that can fluctuate due to clouds or night and fry your electronics.
On a somewhat-related note, my secondary water got turned on this morning, 24 days late. My yard didn't bounce back with the 1.5" rain we got last weekend, it's dead, but at least I can soak my dry grass this coming Fourth. The "No fires/fireworks" maps were released two days ago, and once again I live on the border street; I can't have open flames but the neanderthal that lives across the street will once again be igniting with abandon.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Without a transfer switch your solar would back feed the grid and electrocute a lineman so there has to be something there in case of a outage. Go propane on the backupOzzie_Isaac said:
Supposedly you can actually do it with micro-inverters. You setup a portion that is totally separate from the grid. A battery would definitely help with fluctuations. I don't fully understand it all. Costs ramp up everytime I ask questions.alaskanassasin said:

Never heard of that before. They don't install an automatic transfer switch so the solar doesn't continue to back feed into the utility company?

That was my assumption which was wrong. Also not something that is highlighted in the sales pitch. The monthly cost savings for me would have been in the neighborhood of $50-$100 based on their projections. That alone, doesn't do it for me. Based on a lot of other factors unique to my situation and extra costs for converting some things over it doesn't make sense. Maybe I can work those things out, but at the moment I can't justify the outlay along with no coverage during blackouts. Would be much cheaper to install an generac and buy a thousand gallons of diesel.Ozzie_Isaac said:Cancelled my solar install. "I can't have open flames but the neanderthal that lives across the street will once again be igniting with abandon"
Don't blame the neanderthal, he has such a massive forehead bone that he probably couldn't read the notice about the fire ordinance, because it would always be in shade, and everybody knows neanderthals can't read in the shade especially about fire related stuff.
I think you should go over there with a strong flashlight and three copies of cave drawings depicting the dangers of fire. If that doesn't work, bring a war club, just in case.

Installed quick disconnect for Blackstone on camper. Headed to Mackinac for a few days.
I literally built the connections up in the store. I know not of the FIP MPT FLARE ETC BS
Leak tested and spent 10 minutes seating flare fittings.
Install took less time than wandering the plumbing fittings section like an idiot.
Tested the 22 inch Blackstone. I didn't feel flame was as high as it should be. IR gun on surface showed 480 F. Good enough for me! Most everything I do is at 350 or less.

The fuzzy little misses and I saw Ray in a small theatre in Boston, about four years ago maybe. It was just him and one other person on guitar. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. I could barely stand for very long at the time and the usher let us get pretty close into a little alcove-kind of place, that had a couple of empty seats. I was so grateful for that, to be off my legs for sure, but mostly for the the fuzzy little misses, as she really wanted to see that show, we got really close, and she didn't have to worry about dealing with me not being able to stand very long. The look on her face was worth it, but I'll say it was a phenomenal show and he really does fly under the radar as an artist.

Nope. It’s all net meter unless you get an off-the-grid system which costs about twice as much because of the extra equipment and batteries. My generator is a stand by and it does all the work when the grid is down.HeavyG said:Ozzie_Isaac said:Cancelled my solar install. It was a great show. He played mostly his newer songs, mixed in with a fewer older songs. He has such a unique voice and is an amazing musician.Ybabpmuts said:@JohnInCarolina

So the system just shuts down in the event of a outage, to prevent back feedingnolaegghead said:

We did invest in a stand-by generator here at our place, back at the start of the pandemic. It’s connected to the nat gas line, so you never need to worry about providing fuel. Very happy with it so far. We’ve only had one or two brief power outages but it kicks in right away, all by itself. I highly recommend it.
We have not invested in solar yet, but probably will at some point in the future."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Have fun at the Eggfest, and take your time in responding to me; you no doubt have your hands full as you prepare for tomorrow.
For the filling mix in 1-quart or deep 9 inch piepan
4 cups pared and slice apples,I prefer granny smith's
1/4cup sugar
1/4tsp cinnamon
1/4tsp nutmeg
2tbsp lemon juice
For the topping cream well
1/4 cup crisco shortening
2 tbsp peanut butter
1/3 cup sugar
In another bowling together
3/4 cup enriched flour
1/4tsp baking soda
1/4tsp salt
Add 1 unbeaten egg to the peanut butter mixture an mix well
Then mix in your dry ingredients
Drop the dough from a tbsp to cover entire top of apples. Dipping spoon in cold water each time avoids sticking.
Bake at 350° 35-40 minutes until top is slightly brownedFort Wayne Indiana -
Yes. There is no transfer switch on net meter installations. But even if there was, the supply would vary so widely because of clouds, etc. it could easily damage your appliances.alaskanassasin said:

Wrapping up the day.Had an all day cook out with one of the owners of my company. We’re in Rescaldina Italy. Had more wine than I care to talk about, a few cuts of beef, a few different meats, sausages, salami from his buddy who is a butcher. A home made tiramisu from a buddy’s wife. These guys have been friends for 30+ yrs. It’s a holiday weekend. The only other person here who didn’t speak Italian only speaks Russian, so I did a lot of close listening. His cars are posted on the exotic thread for those who want a peak.

Corn creamer. Use it with corn on the cobb. Cuts the tender end off the corn, milks it, and leaves the tougher kernel shell on the cobb. Can make cream corn in a hurry with it.ColbyLang said:

We need to burn so bad but we have had 1.6” of rain since December. County wide burn ban all year so far. We cut in a road and I have about 20-30 massive trees on the ground. I guess the good news is, by the time I get to burn them, they will go off like a bottle rocket. No gas necessary.ColtsFan said:Burn pile therapy.

Creamed corn not “popular” like macque choux. And that’s corn cut from the cob and then milked. Not nearly as creamyJohnInCarolina said:
