@Eoin and @alaskanassasin thank you for bring up the points on the retaining wall.  I asked the GM some questions last night and suddenly they are water proofing and installing drains.  Might be coincidence, but I suspect it is not.

I told my neighbors their bathroom renovation was not being done right.  They put green sheetrock up in the bath surround.  They painted it with some membrane.  Told them it still wasn't done correctly.  People finished the tile job, it sucked - cracked and leaked, and they got another contractor to redo.

You gotta watch them, they will cut corners and screw you.  Sometimes it's their workers that aren't supervised enough.  Bottom line is you do what you have to to get it done right otherwise you'll be paying for the job twice.

i went with cement board and the magic paint on membrane, so far so good. the membrane seems to be working with the cork floor, which is not recommended in bathrooms, over the weather proof type plywood

Yeah, the redo was cement board with membrane.  They spent over 110k on the initial job for the bathroom and kitchen, then it cost another 40k to fix the first guys problems.  They're too nice to sue (this is the brisket camp lawyers).

I wouldn't have been very nice.

  • Glad it worked out @Ozzie_Isaac make sure when they build your patio the have a plan for water/graded properly, you don't want a puddle in your patio for 3 days after it rains.

Nothing big but a bunch of little things would have gone haywire had I not been watching the kitchen reno guys.

Here is an example, they were going to box in the dishwasher access panel with a full length kick plate  =) I asked them to give me the cutout and countersunk a piece of rare earth magnet behind the cutout myself.

Oh, the magnet idea is a good one!  I have a spa tub ... access panel sticks on with velcro that is taped on.

  • Did @Ozzie_Isaac ever reveal what the project would look like upon completion? I saw all those Blaze boxes but don’t think I’ve seen any description of the intended finished product. All the Blaze boxes piqued my interest as I’ve always thought I should have gotten the Blaze aluminum kamado.
It is an ever evolving project.  The kitchen area is 14'x21'.  Do not have a good rendering of that, all my drawings are 2D.  I will add more pictures as it progresses.  We were supposed to be done in December, but now I am hoping for February, but will probably be April sometime.

No Blaze Kamado.  Those are doors and cabinets.  I am putting in a pizza oven, a griddle, a power burner, a fridge, a sink, and two BGEs.

Sounds like it will be superb. You can PM me for my address for the inauguration. 😉

My one critique is that it sounds like a missed opportunity to A/B a BGE and Blaze side by side.

I refuse to use any kiosk.  I see that as taking away a job from someone else.  My prices keep going up and my service goes down?  Not on my watch.

If anyone wants to know our future watch the movie Elysium, that's our future. 99.5% of us will be living in an apocalyptic wasteland while the Elon Musks and Jeff Bezos' of the world live off planet. The Metaverse is just another Facebook or YouTube where the unwashed masses will go to waste their lives looking at shiny things that don't exist thinking they matter.

I think we're closer to the movie Idiocracy.
That's not a bad comparison either.

Just got 3D at work, it's great, although I can't drive it.

Good point.  If they want this MetaVerse thing to take off, they’ll have to add some virtual shoppers of Walmart into the mix.  The people of Walmart make the experience what it is.

    +1000%

Every summer during college I worked for RGIS, who did inventory for all Walmarts in eastern CT and the rest of New England and would spend 9-12 hours in there 4x/week.

It was...something...to behold, and I'm sure the 20+ years since then have only made things worse.

Trust me, if you are endlessly curious as I am, and cannot resist questionable videos posted by Nola, at least have your speakers on mute.  That song is horrendous.

Ol’ Lady is on a heater. She is done with having COVID and is on a cleaning mission. Time to make myself small and stay out of the way.
I did that yesterday. Dropped the kids off and “cleaned the garage” while she was every stitch of bedding and sanitized every possible surface.
