Surveying the current chaos that is my back yard

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

They have a footer? And plans for a a drain behind the blocks?South of Columbus, Ohio.
-
Yes, there is a footer (32"x12" with rebar, and filled and rebared wall). I was thinking about drains too, but that will all be covered by patio. So not much chance for water intrusion. Plus all my rain gutters will be run down and out the side. I will ask builders tomorrow.alaskanassasin said:They have a footer? Just had 3 back drafts out of the bottom of my medium egg. Could easily see how you could burn down a deck. Maybe time for a cleaning.
4 foot fire ball and hot ash. Kinda cool to watch on concrete. caution!I drink cheap beer so I can afford good bourbon.

You can leave some parts of some of the lower vertical joints free of mortar, or set some 1" PVC pipes in the corners of the lower joints (chip off the corners of the blocks). Stops the risk of pressure build up behind the wall. I like 2 courses for a retaining wall as well - 9" blocks to the rear tied to 4" blocks at the front with stainless wall ties.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Down a rabbit hole of retaining wall investigation. Finally called my BIL who is a commercial GM and got the 411 for my area. Need to confirm a few detail, but looks like it will not explode and kill small children and animals.

Whoa, I used to build retaining walls professionally. Not technically engineer though.

This forum has a wealth of knowledge and experience. We all share the same hobby, but come from many different industries and also have other hobbies. Guitars, music, cars, electrical work, kick ball, baseball, bass boats, HOAs, banking, boiling water, sugar gliders, squirrels, shaving, roofing, chemistry, wood working, boats, and wine. No matter the topic, someone on here can help. That is one of the amazing things about this place.alaskanassasin said:

It looks like you are off to a good start. Pictures will never do it justice when complete unless you fly it with a drone and provide an aerial view. And just to keep it in-house.South of Columbus, Ohio.

That is a little bit of an exaggeration. Odeon of Herodes Atticus was the inspiration.JohnInCarolina said:

When you take a screenshot of a webpage in Safari, you can click on the “full page” button (my phone is set to french so hopefully I translated properly) to capture the whole page as a PDF 😳

Did @Ozzie_Isaac ever reveal what the project would look like upon completion? I saw all those Blaze boxes but don’t think I’ve seen any description of the intended finished product. All the Blaze boxes piqued my interest as I’ve always thought I should have gotten the Blaze aluminum kamado.

It is an ever evolving project. The kitchen area is 14'x21'. Do not have a good rendering of that, all my drawings are 2D. I will add more pictures as it progresses. We were supposed to be done in December, but now I am hoping for February, but will probably be April sometime.GrateEggspectations said:Did @Ozzie_Isaac ever reveal what the project would look like upon completion? No Blaze Kamado. Those are doors and cabinets. I am putting in a pizza oven, a griddle, a power burner, a fridge, a sink, and two BGEs.
