On a conference call with mostly people with PhD’s and some of them cannot figure out how to mute their microphone if they aren’t talking.  First world problems I guess, happy Thursday.

I was on one earlier where we had a 5 min break and the host left his mic open and went to the bathroom.  It was a vendor, his mgmt team was on.  Ouch.

My company is making me get a webcam.  I told them I couldn't figure out how to order it.  They had my admin order it for me :bawling:  I have not worn a shirt or shaved since February.

My embarrassing Zoom story is tied to the fact that, apparently when you change your name in Zoom, it sometimes remembers what you changed it to and goes with that in future sessions, even if you've changed it back to something else.

So I was on a social Zoom call with roommates from grad school.  The running joke back then was that we would refer to each other as "my friend".  As in, "How's it going today... my friend?"  I don't recall who started it, we just all started doing it.

So on the Zoom call I changed my Zoom name to "Your friend".  That gave us a good laugh.

Well since that time I've logged on to several work-related calls where when I first log on, my name shows up as "Your friend".  Recently I was on one call and did not even discover that it was like that until a good 30 minutes into the call.  It was a professional society one where most people didn't really even know me that well, so I'm sure many of them were wondering "who is this clown and why is his Zoom name Your Friend?"

Obviously given some of the names I've given myself on the Friday night calls (Ahole in Charge) it could be a lot worse.

Anyway, I hope that my experiences here mostly serve as a warning to others, as usual.

That was a much worse problem back when we used telephones, getting flooded with "On Hold" music and not being able to "see" who the culprit was.

Hold music, The pop-up ad of confrence calls.  We had a major customer meeting with over 70 people on a call once and obnoxious hold music started.  We actually managed to hang up and recall in.  Hold music was still there!!  Did not wait long enough for it to kick everyone off when host hung up/dialed back in.  It was an ear-grating 45 minutes before person came back.  Nobody ever owned up to it.

I have not worn a shirt or shaved since February.
I can fully understand the not wearing a shirt part. But the not shaving 🪒 is a travesty. One should shave often and shave early my wooly friend.

Before Zoom, We had a law firm come in and do a mock harassment trial for us. During a break, the lead atty took her hot mike to the restroom with her...she never came back to the meeting room.

My company though all video conferences was a good idea. It only lasted like 2 weeks. Our VPs wife tried to cut his hair when everything was closed and messed it up so bad she had to shave the whole thing.

I'm on at least one every day. I can happily confirm that pants are still optional.

Agree.  Lots of 5 and 6 AMs for me, boxers and a fresh polo shirt does it.  Cut my hair to the point that bedhead isn’t possible.

It's better than that actually.  I realized recently that I could still wear a dress shirt I had that has a stain in it, because the stain was below the Zoom window.  That felt like a pretty big win at the time.

Online research for the wife’s next ride. Gotta be a larger midsize suv. Can’t fit a Tahoe in the garage. Current ride is a 2015 Acadia Denali. Looking at Lincoln Aviator, VW Atlas, Volvo XC90. Anyone got any input?

Looked at all 3 prior to the purchase of the Acadia. She didn’t like any of them. I know things have definitely changed in 6 years. Maybe I can convince her to give em a look again. Thanks @Lit

We have the Audi version of the atlas. Assume they are somewhat similar, it’s a really solid car and my wife loves it.  Super quiet, fairly speedy- Not great on the amount of room.

I would check out the new pilot- very much improved.

I would also check out the Hyundai Palisade- crazy good reviews. No personal experience with this one.

When it's time, I'll be looking carefully at the Audi QS-5/QS-7; but I'll also check out the Mazda 7 and 9 models; great feature/price ratio and available in that stunning ruby-red-metallic color, the most beautiful paint ever put on a vehicle (this is just my opinion, but it should be yours too )

And when I say "When it's time", I'm meaning hopefully ten years from now, when I'm too old to get into my convertible and my (2008, 60K mile) truck is no longer necessary for me.  I should be dead by then.

The Audi’s are nice. The price tag hurts to even look at!
