Loving it!   An RC cola with salted peanuts poured in the bottle and you have my childhood in your kitchen.

I haven't had a banana moon pie in 40 years+. Hadn't even thought about a banana moon pie in 40+ years.

Now that's all I'm going to think about for the next week or so.

    .....

Turns out my neighborhood Kroger has a box of 12 mini's on hand. Those will be mine tomorrow!

My local Dollar General has RC every so often. I wish they would keep it all of the time.

@alaskanassasin @Gulfcoastguy  I did all the base and form prep and was under the impression per my last conversation with the guy that he would put in rebar.  He looked at it yesterday, saw no rebar and just ordered concrete with fiber because he thought I was taking care of rebar.  Broom finish is good other than turning up a bunch of fiber that may be hard on feet or I’ll have to find a better solution to take them off.  Was mishap on both of us as I would expect a guy to ask if my intention was for fiber cement considering we talked about what he puts in for rebar.  Too late now and it will be fine, just a little disappointing after all the prep work.

I was just posting this on the $h!t show thread and it got nuked as I was writing. That’s a first.

Anyhow- we should have a forum take over of the big green egg subreddit on a sleepy weeknight. Show up, post a bunch of badass cooks and then just disappear   They would be so confused.
    That would be hilarious!!

Probably folks have seen this, but this is just incredible to see the amount of damage this storm laid down in the Midwest.  You can literally see the color difference from the corn being laid over from space.

Yup, just keep the lid off.  You may need to add liquid.

Okay fiber is a replacement for wire mesh not for reinforcement bars. It is a good replacement for wire mesh which is intended to reduce shrinkage cracks, I actually prefer it to wire mesh. It doesn’t add tension strength to the slab though. I was in charge of a lot of concrete pouring over the last 40 years. Anyhow get a bag of coarse masonry sand from Lowe’s. Pour it over the slab after the forms are removed. Walking back and forth on the sandy pavement will grind down the “dog hair” as we call it.

They do that on interior house slabs that are going to be covered up with other flooring.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker that’s the Luther elevator about 10 miles to the west-Southwest of me.  There’s a second elevator about 8 miles east of this one that looks about the same.

With no added tension strength would you still saw it?  He’s supposed to come back and saw it tomorrow and also seal it.

Thanks for the advice on cleaning down the fibers.

  • @FarmingPhD I would not suggest sealing that slab for at least 30-45 days. You can’t afford to lose any strength in that slab. It needs to cure as slow as possible. I would suggest trying to keep it moist for the next 5 days minimum. The slower the concrete cures the stronger it will be. But definitely don’t seal it before 30-45 days minimum. Keep wet leaves off if you are worried about staining prior to sealing. Although sealing won’t prevent the wet leaves from staining. Control cuts are a must.

I would saw it. Use silicone joint filler after you use compressed air to clean the sawed joints. You only have to saw it a quarter of the thickness, a inch deep if it is a 4 inch slab. He is doing right by sawing it. I am more impressed now with that additional info.

Btw concrete finishers expect rebar to already be in place if they are going to be used. Separate trades just like painters expect drywall to already be mudded  and floated. He actually did pretty good by ordering fiber when he didn’t see any wire mesh.

It’s a seal and cure, not sure on the difference, but it’s supposed to help hold moisture in from my understanding.

That is what we call liquid membrane. It is sprayed on after the concrete starts looking dull rather wet. It comes in clear and in white. The purpose is to slow the concrete drying. Do take a weed blower and blow leaves off for a few days and keep dogs, cats , and kids away from the slab for about 3 days.

I once missed some of those leaves on the walk ways to a state welcome center. They left leaf imprints in the concrete. One of the tourists oohed and aahed over it and asked how I got that pattern in the concrete.

As I said I am more impressed with your finisher now. No need to jump on him. In fact I want to do the same thing at my house eventually.

Anyhow- we should have a forum take over of the big green egg subreddit on a sleepy weeknight. Show up, post a bunch of badass cooks and then just disappear   They would be so confused.
Over two decades ago I was an active member on a musician forum, which was split into way too many sub-sub-forums, one called "Sweat" (it was about the hard work of gigging musicians, under the "Live Playing" sub-forum).  A counterculture, if you will, developed in that space, full of sick-minded oddballs and I was a happy active member (huh-huh, he said "Member").  When the magazine sponsoring the whole forum (either Musician or Keyboard, can't remember which) folded, one member of Sweat migrated the sub-sub-forum to a personal server, where it operated for quite a few years (we even had cross-country meetings, a la "Butt Blasts").  It eventually migrated to a "Group" on Facebook, where it still has maybe a dozen members (huh-huh, he said Members again!)
When it was still under the paper magazine, we Sweat members all decided to change our avatars, overnight, to pics of Alpaca sweaters from a particular catalog; they were all similar photos except for the colors/patterns.  Everyone was yelling, "WTF is going on here?!?"  Exactly one week later, we restored our original avatars, and we didn't say a thing; mass confusion again, and so much fun!
We also invaded, for exactly one week, a forum dedicated to lovers of "Yoo-Hoo', some kind of chocolate drink in glass bottles.  It sounds like the "subreddit" item mentioned above; would be a lot of fun and I'm in, should we decide to do it!

Nothing, just some folks got bent.  Felt the need to vent.  Wanted to say their two cents. Not really sure what they meant, but they left to go pitch a tent.
