I'm sure there is some throttling but when you are aging a product for 6, 10 or 20+ years no one could have predicted this boom.  Here the number of barrels being aged just topped 10 M.  2019 was the first year that the quantity broke the old record of 8.7 M set in 1968 when it crossed the 9 M mark.
Clearly the rebels of the 70's and 80's and the clear spirit shift played a key role in the long haul back.
But this sustained growth is beyond belief for me.
BTW- the closer you are to ground zero it seems like the decent stuff is harder to find.  More $$ to be made exporting in the USA and especially Asia.
Always a good exercise when out of the area and hitting liquor stores to see what's available.

The insanity of the bourbon landscape today:  For the past three years, my son and I have signed up for Sazerac's Single Barrel Select day event which happens on Dec 1st commencing at high Noon (EST).  This is an annual one-off event.  6 years ago, the allotted barrels took around 3 months to get claimed.  4 years ago it was a couple of weeks and of late, instantaneous.  Today the random queue generator slotted me at 25,906.  Given there are only 200-300 barrels available it was another total miss.  There's always next year-
I concur. So say by some in the sales side of the industry it’s fake demand/allocation. I don’t know what to think. Used to be able to buy Blanton’s for $38 a fifth on the shelf every day. Now it’s $100+ in small allocations
It's ridiculous these days that's for certain.   It'll fizzle out at some point at least I hope.

A few decades ago I spent a couple of weekends in Nanaimo, BC.  The bars were famous, the town great and the beer not even a pulse.  Given the bars, the beer has got to be quite enjoyable.

Just for clarification, this is not a beer, but a cream liqueur like Bailey's. Forty creek is a whiskey company here up north which is the base of this stuff. Extremely sweet as im sure you could imagine having tried Nanaimo bars.

Thanks.  I was thinking maybe you were taking the "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" idea a little too far...

  • I had a good run with the Goose Island this year
OG in bottle and a growler off draught
    1 Cola, 1 OF 150, 1 cherrywood, and 2 double barrel

I still have one each of the Weller and Old Forester from last year. I'll drink one of those after the first round of the college playoffs this year and the other after the championship game
Grabbed another cherrywood and cola today along with a fourteen. That's one I was missing

Wish I had the Blanton's one though

    Boom

Just got a text from a local honey hole. Has another Masters Keep One. I just got a bottle from my other spot. I can't resist though. I told him I'd take it. I just can't pass up some of those rare and special bottles. What made me pull the trigger was he is asking 30% less than I paid for the first one. he's real close to retail. Maybe I can trade for something else rare that I can't get locally. Cheers!

I did a Bourbon Advent Calendar for 11 of my buddies.  Actually did 12 in all, one for me. My quest started about 3 years ago when a buddy of mine who owns a bar was talking about high end Bourbons.  I asked him if I could piggy back on what he was doing and earn my own credits with purchasing bourbon thru him and he said yes.  With the credits earned, I get access to allocated bourbon at wholesale prices.  All in all I probably spent about 20 hours doing this between washing and sanitizing 300 1.5 ounce little jam jars to printing labels and stickers to pouring and packaging.  Below are some pictures and itinerary of our journey.

    Pretty awesome!

FYI, you can buy those little sample bottles fairly cheap online. Although probably not nearly as cool or decorative. Enjoy!

This is today’s brew from the advent calendar the wife gave me.  I’m not typically into sours but this is actually pretty good.
