Also, proving to myself that sugar tastes sweeter when warm. Supposedly because temperature affects the activation of taste receptors on your tongue, specifically the TRPM5 receptors which are more sensitive to sweetness at warmer temperatures. So your brain receives a stronger signal signifying sweetness when the sugar is warm.
The warmed Cadbury egg definitely tastes better than the half-frozen one.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

The Power Level feature is your friend; try 30 seconds at 50% power next time. (this single tip earned Cooks Illustrated another year's subscription from me, solved so many problems)Ozzie_Isaac said:17 seconds in the limit for a frozen Cadbury egg in a 1000 watt microwave oven.

I use 50% power for almost everything, it’s a game changer! I didn’t for this though. May try again.Botch said:

I have a question about bean sprouts. I picked up an 8-oz bag at the Asian market two days ago, yesterday noticed water in the bottom of the bag, and snipped a corner to drain that water out. Today I fully opened the bag to add some to my stir-fry, and again some water at the bottom, which I drained off. The sprouts at the bottom of the bag were already starting to look "iffy", so I laid the bag in the frig on the other side; I'll probably get some useable sprouts out tomorrow but I bet no more after that.
Is there a trick to keeping bean sprouts in the frig? If they're going to go bad faster than raw chicken, they're not worth buying (even though the bag was less than $2). I did try sprouting my own from mung beans, but I have to plan ahead, and if/when I do it I usually forget they're up in the cupboard and that isn't pretty."First method of estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him."

Sprouts don’t hold well at all. I will take them out of the bag, pat them dry, then roll in a dry paper towel. Then put in a crisper drawer. I can get an extra few days.Botch said:I have a question about bean sprouts. Thanks! I did finally figure out that wrapping cilantro/Ital parsley/green onions in damp cloth/crisper drawer was better than setting them in a glass of water; and it makes sense as watery as they are that bean sprouts should be wrapped in a dry paper towel.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Finishing up “American Primeval” on Netflix. Great series if you’re into things as such. Been a fan of Peter Berg for a long time and this, to me, does not disappoint.LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas

bean sprouts are dead easy to grow in a cupboard. mason jar with cheese cloth over top, dried mung beans in the jar. put them under the tap to fill, swish and dump. keep them in a darkish place - a cupboard by the sink is perfect and lets you rinse and repeat a few times a day. pretty soon you have fresh sprouts any time you want.Ozzie_Isaac said:

The wife and I binged it Saturday. I didn't know any of that happened, nor did I realize the Mormons were not so friendly. Maybe I should be worried about my neighbors who are Mormon. lol I as well really like Peter Berg. He is the guest on a couple of podcasts I listen to this week. Going to have to give them a listen.TechsasJim said:Finishing up “American Primeval” on Netflix. Great series if you’re into things as such.
