At the other end of the weather spectrum... the website for applications for World Cup tickets opened recently. We are considering going. Anyone else thinking of this?

I don't think I could bring myself to support the overwhelmingly corrupt decision by FIFA to award it to them, let alone the Qatari govt and the human rights abuses to fail at building the proposed venues (I thought they were all supposed to be domes so they could actually hold the WC at the normal time).Foghorn said:At the other end of the weather spectrum... the website for applications for World Cup tickets opened recently. Yeah. We're struggling some with that as well - balanced with the fact that we accepted the FIFA was corrupt when we went in 2010 and 2014 (lesser issues with stadium construction, etc - but still issues).Acn said:

That is of course all true, but 2018 and especially 2022 just seemed to be a step up in FIFA sleaziness.Foghorn said:

We can only hope that the banning of Blatter, Platini, and others has helped them significantly clean up their act going forward.Acn said:

Stop assigning your western morals and world view to an international organization. Go, enjoy the game, make memories. FIFA doesn't care if you go or do not go. Might as well piss on a forest fire.Foghorn said:

We’re most of the way through January and the PL season stumbles forward despite self-induced confusion about Covid postponements. The transfer window has been spectacularly dull but on the plus side, nations are being eliminated from the AFCON now so some players will be back soon.
Friday; Watford v Norwich - a basement dwellers clash that generates a hard to predict outcome. The Hornets are just plain weird and the Canaries won’t give up. There will be goals, so 2-2 just for laughs.
Saturday
Everton v Villa; The Toffees axed Rafa but are in choppy waters on the pitch and turmoil off it. Meanwhile Stevie G continues his CV building revolution with Villa. 0-2.
Brentford v Wolves; The Bees are starting to wobble and this will be a tough match to get anything from. Wolves have hit their straps and will not be nervous of this encounter. 0-1 - possibly more.
Leeds v Newcastle; Both teams have improved but Leeds are winning and Newcastle only achieving draws. Can’t see beyond a home win and pressure mounts on Toon because these are the matches that have to win to stay up. 2-1
Man U v West Ham; big test of the Hammers’ minerals here. Utd are there for the taking but the cocktail of talent in their ranks rules out an obvious result. A good game or football might even break out. 2-2
Southampton v Man City, Saints will just be outgunned and outclassed. 0-3
Sunday
Arsenal v Burnley; looks straightforward at first glance but the Gunners have had a blindspot with Burnley in the past, however the Clarets are nailed to the floor of the league so this time it should be plain sailing 2-0
Palace v Liverpool; usually we lose 3-0 to Liverpool but this time that’s less certain, albeit that could mean 1-3 instead. The Reds are blunted due to AFCON and so I am going out on a limb for 1-1.
Leicester v Brighton; the Foxes will be smarting from a late defeat mid-week, the filthy seagulls will be obdurate - as 11 draws from 21 bears testimony. Feels like another tie but perhaps Leicester can see this one home 2-1.
Chelsea v Spurs; can be a feisty game. The hosts are mid-wobble and the visitors are newly solid. All 3 results on the table and I am just about calling it a draw at 2-2.

I'm not as optimistic about your Palace boys as you are. I think they'll fall. I hope I'm wrong. Your loyalty is honorable.
